Due to the increasing demand for passenger travel during the holidays, Saigon Railways has added more trains on four peak routes including Saigon to Hanoi, Quy Nhon, Nha Trang and Phan Thiet. Train SPT1/2 on the Saigon - Phan Thiet section has added more stations to pick up and drop off passengers from March 28 at Gia Ray station, Xuan Loc district, Dong Nai province and Gia Huynh station, Tanh Linh district, Binh Thuan province.
This is a high-quality train, put into operation since 2017, serving tourists who want to travel slowly and see beautiful roads.
Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company said it has been selling train tickets for the April 30 - May 1 period for nearly 20 days. It is estimated that more than 35,000 tickets have been issued, including 10,000 for the Thong Nhat train from Hanoi, nearly 3,850 for the Hanoi - Da Nang train, more than 6,000 for the Hanoi - Vinh train, about 20,000 for the Hanoi - Hai Phong train, and more than 3,500 for the Hanoi - Lao Cai train.
Saigon Railway Station will run more trains from Saigon to Nha Trang and Saigon to Phan Thiet to serve the needs of passengers during the upcoming April 30 - May 1 holidays.
Currently, the ticket price from Saigon to Hanoi is the highest among all routes. A 4-berth air-conditioned sleeper in the middle compartment costs 1.8 million VND, the lowest ticket class is a soft seat, more than 1 million VND, an increase of 3% to 10% compared to normal days depending on the seat type. Mr. Truyen said that "this ticket price is not high compared to an airline ticket".
However, the number of passengers traveling from Saigon station and stopping at Hanoi station is not much because the distance is long, traveling more than a day. Train passengers mainly choose short routes because the railway passes through many provinces and cities, stopping at many stations. Routes such as Saigon - Quy Nhon and Saigon - Da Nang are expected to have a high number of bookings because the ticket price during the holiday is half cheaper than airfare.
Currently, booking train tickets is quite easy, visitors can book on the application, website of Vietnam Railways Company or through e-wallets.
