Everest: The Little Yeti(Abominable) is an animated film co-produced by DreamWorks of the United States and Pearl of China. The film tells the story of Yi, a young girl of Chinese descent, who accidentally discovers a Yeti on her rooftop in Shanghai, China, and tries to return the Yeti to the Himalayas.

From the end of September, the film was heavily promoted in Vietnam, with many cinemas even touting it as one of the "best films of October" and scheduled its screening for October 4, 2019. However, on the afternoon of October 13, several images from the film circulated on social media, including a map hanging in Yi's room marking famous landmarks she wanted to visit, but the map contained dotted lines resembling China's "nine-dash line." Therefore, after only 10 days of release, the film was pulled from all cinemas nationwide.

Regarding the incident, the Film Department stated that it would take responsibility for the errors in the censorship process and that on October 14th, the Department held a meeting to find a solution. "We are urgently re-examining the film versions because now that films are digital, there will be many different versions, including trailers. Only from the results of that work will we be able to come up with a final solution."

With the rapid development of cinema in recent decades, the film censorship mechanism is facing many shortcomings. Last year, the Chinese-produced film Operation Red Sea, which included illegal claims of sovereignty in the South China Sea, was still approved and screened in Vietnam. Furthermore, on October 14, 2019, the film Rom by Tran Dung Thanh Huy was fined 40 million VND by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for participating in the Busan Film Festival (South Korea) without permission.
