12/03/2022

The People's Committee of Son Tay town is currently in the process of urgently implementing a pedestrian walkway around the moat of Son Tay ancient citadel. It is expected to be put into operation during the upcoming April 30th - May 1st holiday.

The pilot pedestrian zone extends from the old gate of the Son Tay Town People's Committee headquarters (Pho Duc Chinh Street) to Cua Tien Bridge (the intersection of Quang Trung and Nguyen Thai Hoc streets). Spanning 820 meters, the pedestrian zone includes: Pho Duc Chinh - Phan Chu Trinh Street, the outer promenade of the Son Tay Ancient Citadel, the town's central flower garden, the square surrounding the central flower garden, the front yard of the town's Cultural Center, and the town stadium square.

The construction of the Son Tay Ancient Citadel pedestrian street aims to create a recreational, cultural, and tourist space for residents and visitors, while also promoting the value of the Son Tay Ancient Citadel relic and connecting it with other tourist destinations in the area. Here, Son Tay town will organize food services, showcase souvenirs, and introduce local specialties. Families in the area can continue to operate their existing businesses.

Locals and tourists can also experience and enjoy contemporary art performances, street music, folk dancing, portrait painting, sketching, calligraphy, boat racing, fishing, water puppetry, etc. In addition, art and photography exhibitions, book and magazine presentations, and recreational activities for young people and children are also organized here.

Renovation work on the interior of Son Tay Ancient Citadel is also being carried out urgently. The project to preserve and promote the value of Son Tay Ancient Citadel has completed approximately 80% of its construction, with the main components such as walking paths and resting areas basically finished.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huy Khanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Tay town, as of now, the units have completed all the work of beautifying sidewalks, painting road markings on streets around the ancient citadel and some streets adjacent to the pedestrian street area, completing the installation of information signs and directional signs around the moat of the ancient citadel, and deploying the installation of landscaped fences.

Son Tay Ancient Citadel is Hanoi's fourth pedestrian zone, following the Hoan Kiem Lake pedestrian zone, the Hanoi Old Quarter pedestrian zone, and the Trinh Cong Son Street pedestrian zone. In the near future, Hanoi plans to open several more pedestrian zones in various districts and communes.
