Based on the report of the Civil Aviation Authority and to continue strengthening State management and meeting people's travel needs during the upcoming summer peak season, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) requires units to strictly control airfares.

The summer tourist season is approaching, people's travel demand is increasing, the aviation industry is also entering the peak period. Airlines are trying to increase capacity to meet market demand, especially on high traffic routes.

However, rising costs are a big challenge for airlines. Fuel prices, spare parts, airport rental costs, ground services... are all at high levels, affecting the profits of airlines.

Leasing additional aircraft during peak season is also a major financial burden for airlines. Aircraft rental prices are rising due to high global demand and limited supply.

According to information from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the booking rate for domestic flights in the next month is higher than average, especially on flights connecting tourist destinations from localities. Booking rates are higher on weekends and days close to departure time. Booking rates for domestic flights are expected to continue to increase in the coming months, especially during the peak summer tourist season.

The application of many fare levels gives customers many options to suit their needs and financial capabilities. However, this also makes it more difficult to compare prices between airlines.

To contribute to reducing input costs for the aviation industry, airlines need to increase aircraft utilization efficiency, take advantage of many time slots during the day and shorten aircraft turnaround time.

Regarding fare policies, airlines need to apply a variety of prices from low to high, so that the majority of customers can access prices that are suitable to their ability to pay. In the current context, for airlines to survive and develop, they need to ensure profits. Without profits, attracting investment and expanding new airlines will be difficult.

Domestic tourism products can increase their competitiveness with foreign tours if they maintain stable prices during the holiday season, avoiding creating a situation of "combo price increases" from airfares, hotels, to restaurants. If not controlled, this price increase will strongly impact tour prices and inevitably lead to a decrease in competitiveness.

Aviation experts say that the current fleet of airlines is about 30% smaller than before, which has had a major impact on airfares due to demand exceeding supply. In addition, the number of airlines competing is not as vibrant as before, with the two main airlines, Vietjet and Vietnam Airlines, holding the majority of market share, while the remaining airlines only have a modest market share.

Therefore, the most important issue now is that aviation and tourism need to harmonize their interests and truly cooperate to calculate the overall cost structure, ensuring that both sides benefit. Although fuel costs, exchange rates and aircraft rental prices have doubled, they have had a big impact on the construction of ticket prices, but if tourism and aviation work together to build a reasonable calculation formula, it can still bring benefits to both sides.

The leaders of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also called on localities to pay attention and facilitate connections between the aviation and tourism industries, in order to increase new flight routes and support solving input cost problems for airlines.
