19/05/2023

If you've ever read "The Queen of Egypt," you'll surely long to see and touch the ancient relics of this mysterious land. Mentioning Egypt immediately brings to mind its long-standing civilization, magnificent architectural structures, and unique heritage.

Hoang Minh Thuong (1991) is currently a travel creator on social media platforms. Her 12-day trip to Egypt allowed her to experience and explore this mysterious land with its ancient civilization.

Egypt is a country located in northeastern Africa. It is the only country whose territory spans three continents: Europe, Asia, and Africa, bordering the Mediterranean Sea, Israel, Jordan, Sudan, and Libya.

Hoang Minh Thuong had a 12-day trip exploring mysterious Egypt.

Much of Egypt is covered by the vast Sahara Desert, with the Nile River flowing through it from south to north. The population is concentrated mainly on both banks of the Nile. The capital of Egypt is Cairo, one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Due to its geographical location at the crossroads of North Africa, the Middle East, and Southwest Asia, Egypt is a cultural melting pot of many regions and countries. Possessing one of the oldest civilizations of humankind, Egypt has become an attractive destination for exploring its mysteries, legends, and amazing world heritage.

Minh Thuong's 12-day Egypt exploration itinerary included visits to famous locations such as: Cairo, Siwa Oasis, Luxor, camping in the Sahara Desert, Ginza Pyramids, the world's largest antiquities museum, Aswan, the Nile River, Abu Simbel, the Valley of the Kings, Hungrada, the Red Sea, and the ancient market of Khan El Khalili...

From Cairo, Minh Thuong and her group traveled by car for 12 hours to the Siwa Oasis, camping in the Sahara Desert. In Siwa, she visited Shali, a mountain town that was once an ancient fortress guarding the entire town. From above, it's possible to take photos that capture the entire oasis. Afterwards, they visited the salt caves and salt lakes, and had the opportunity to immerse themselves and swim in the clear, cool saltwater. You'll never sink when swimming in the crystal-clear, cool saltwater, and you can touch the pure salt crystals that have formed in this area.

The Sphinx – a statue with the head of a human and the body of a lion, measuring 45 meters in length and 15 meters in length in legs, carved from a single block of stone, representing the divine power and authority of the Pharaohs.

Minh Thuong had the opportunity to experience bathing in the Cleopatra hot springs, a place where the beautiful Cleopatra is said to have bathed, while also admiring the Amoun Temple, the Hill of Death, and El Dakrour Mountain.

Preparing for a desert safari, Minh Thuong and her group ventured deep into the desert in specialized jeeps. They stopped at a small oasis to enjoy Berber tea at a spot perfect for watching the sunset during their jeep tour.

In the evening, as the sun set, she and the members of the camping group spent the night, lighting a campfire under the starry sky and enjoying a very special meal of lamb and chicken roasted in the sand.

Visiting the Giza pyramid complex, the Giza Pyramids are the oldest and only surviving of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, standing at 146 meters tall. Giza is the largest pyramid and, prior to the Middle Ages, the greatest construction ever undertaken by humankind. The Giza pyramid complex includes: Cheops, Chephren, and Mycerinus.

Minh Thuong visited a papyrus paper production facility – papyrus paper, which is believed to have been first used in ancient Egypt, during the First Dynasty, around 4,000 BC. Papyrus paper is ivory-colored, yellowish-brown, stiff but flexible, and exceptionally durable. It is made from the core of a type of reed called papyrus, which grows to a height of about 2-3 meters along the banks of the Nile River. Most memorably, she and the members of her group became one of the first Vietnamese groups to have the opportunity to visit the world's largest Egyptian Antiquities Museum.

Minh Thuong also spent three days cruising on the Nile River and visiting Aswan. In Aswan, she visited the High Dam – recognized as the world's largest dam, built over 11 years and completed in 1971. Under President Nasser, the Aswan Dam brought the Nile River, a majestic, strong, and unruly river, under human control for the first time in history. She also visited the temple of the goddess Isis – the goddess of love – on Phila Island. She also watched the sunset over the Nile River and visited the Nubian village – a green village – participating in activities with the island's inhabitants.

A hot air balloon ride and a visit to the Valley of the Kings is an experience Minh Thuong recommends tourists definitely enjoy when visiting Egypt. A hot air balloon ride lasts about 45 minutes. Tourists will be picked up from their hotel early in the morning to catch the first rays of sunrise. Flights are usually early in the morning and will be canceled if there is strong wind to ensure safety. The hot air balloon will fly along the west bank of the Nile River from north to south, allowing tourists to admire the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut, and the Temple of Amenhotep III to the west. From above, you will clearly see two stretches of fertile green plains and a barren desert.

Furthermore, upon arriving at the Red Sea – a unique body of water connecting the Middle East and the Suez Canal – Minh Thuong was captivated by its stunning beauty, with its vibrant shades of dark blue interspersed with light blue and turquoise, resembling a painting. Tourists can enjoy private boat trips and scuba diving to explore the soft, colorful coral reefs, lively schools of fish, and intelligent dolphins.

Upon returning to Cairo, visitors can shop at the ancient Khan El Khalili market to discover the daily life of Egyptian culture. “In Egypt, I found it very easy to integrate. The most memorable experiences were probably the stories about bargaining. You can buy a dress here for 1/10 of the original price if you bargain well,” Minh Thuong shared.

The total cost for 12 days, including all expenses, was around 75-85 million VND, covering 5-star services such as hotels, airfare, cruises, hot air balloon rides, transportation, and meals.

What is the ideal time of year to visit Egypt?

Egypt has four dominant climatic zones: Mediterranean on the coast near Alexandria, Półpustynny near Cairo, moderate in the Nile Valley, and desert in the south. For the vast majority of years, Egypt is dry and sunny. Average air temperatures in summer are 38-40 degrees Celsius, but the desert reaches 50 degrees Celsius.

From June to September, the weather in Egypt is very hot, rarely dropping below 30 degrees Celsius. The best time to visit Egypt is from October to March each year, avoiding the hot summer months and potential for disease outbreaks. Due to the hot climate, tourists should drink plenty of water, apply sunscreen with a high SPF, and wear sunglasses and hats when traveling in Egypt.

Enjoy the cuisine

According to Minh Thuong, Egypt is famous for its dishes made from vegetables and spices. In addition, the vegetables and fruits there are very fresh and delicious thanks to being grown on the fertile land enriched by the Nile River's alluvial deposits.

Since the majority of Egypt's population is Muslim, pork is not part of their traditional cuisine. People primarily eat beef, lamb, seafood, and animal offal. However, the local cuisine is generally not to the liking of Vietnamese people, so tourists should bring instant noodles or condiments and sauces to accompany their meals.

“Come to Egypt to feel the connection with this extraordinary country. Come to Egypt, fly under the sparkling sunrise, immerse yourself in the vibrant colors of hot air balloons soaring above the pyramids and the Sphinx with all gratitude,” Hoang Minh Thuong shared.
