Accordingly, the Lao government requires transactions in communications, tour guides, accommodation and food in Laos to use kip and encourages them to be carried out through the banking system.
The Department of Information, Culture and Tourism of provinces and cities is assigned to strengthen the management and supervision of tourism industry units in the listing, announcement of prices, payment and collection of communication service fees, tour guide business service fees, hotel accommodation fees and food and beverage fees in kip. Meanwhile, payments via QR codes, POS machines and international websites such as Visa, Master Card, UnionPay, WeChat and Alipay can make foreign currency transactions. POS machines are point of sale machines that accept bank cards to pay service bills.
Lao authorities require that all accommodation and food transactions in Laos must be made in kip.
The use of Kip makes it easier for the Lao government to manage and regulate the currency market, thereby contributing to boosting the economy. Furthermore, payments through the banking system help increase transparency and easily track transactions, thereby helping to limit money laundering activities.
When paying through the banking system, visitors will be protected by the bank's regulations and policies, ensuring safety and transparency for transactions.
In cases where tourism service providers are found to be uncooperative, violating the law or advertising, encouraging foreign tourists to exchange money with illegal entities or using foreign currency in Laos, they will face temporary or permanent suspension or revocation of their business license and tour guide certificate.
