Nhon Market is a large market in Bac Ninh, the first market in the North to pilot a plastic waste reduction program. Shops, from those selling household appliances, clothes to vegetables, have signs to limit straws, plastic cups and plastic waste.

Sharing about the anti-plastic waste movement, Nhon market traders said that this model has just been piloted here but is supported by everyone. Traders want customers to proactively bring their own bags to contain their waste, because biodegradable paper bags are quite expensive, and shop owners cannot invest in them all or switch to this type of bag immediately.
Many retailers also use biodegradable paper bags to contain food when selling to customers.

Although it has been piloted at Nhon market, the most important thing to reduce plastic waste when going to the market is to change people's awareness and behavior when using plastic waste, from limiting, minimizing and eventually eliminating plastic waste and single-use plastic bags.

From Nhon market, which was the first pilot in the North, it is hoped that the model of a traditional market that reduces plastic waste will gradually be replicated and change people's habits to switch to using environmentally friendly products and materials.
