Venice is located in northeastern Italy, only 1 meter above sea level, with a total area of 414.57 km², including 118 large and small islands, 160 canals, more than 500 bridges and 115 churches.

Venice has many nicknames such as: "City of Canals", "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water", "City of Masks", "City of Bridges", "Floating City", "City of Canals"... According to legend, Venice was founded in 421 by Romans fleeing from the Goths. However, there are no historical records about the origin of Venice.
Venice is the "City of Bridges"
From the 9th to the 12th century, Venice developed into a city-state. Its strategic location at the head of the Adriatic Sea gave Venice undeniable naval and economic power. The city became a prosperous center of trade between Western Europe and the rest of the world (especially the Byzantine Empire and the Islamic world).

During the 20th century, the extraction of water from aquifers caused Venice to gradually sink. The sinking process has slowed markedly since wells were banned in the 1960s. However, the city is still threatened by regular low-level floods (called Acqua alta, “high water”) that raise the water level to a level a few centimeters above the city’s piers, often caused by tides. Studies indicate that the city continues to sink at a relatively slow rate of 1222 mm per year.
From September to November, Venice will be quiet, because there are fewer tourists.
In addition to the intricate canal system, Venice boasts many ancient and majestic palaces and squares. In addition, visitors can visit famous places such as Basilica di San Marco, Venezia fortress, Rialto, Accademia, Scalzi bridges...

Tourists visit Venice all year round. Weather-wise, the period from June to August is pleasant, suitable for traveling, but not for your budget, as the traditional gondolas that take tourists to see the river will be full of tourists, and hotel prices will increase.

From September to November, Venice will be quiet, because there are fewer tourists and you can explore the city at your own pace. But for great photos in Venice, you should visit the city from March to May because spring in Venice is truly wonderful.

Obviously, Venice is a place with a very special character when it is the only city in Europe in the middle of the 21st century that does not use cars and trucks as a means of transportation. A city with a long history but can also be the end of the world tomorrow. A city hidden under the romance and sublimation of peaceful masks.
