However, some restaurants offer the opposite kind of service. They serve high-quality food and drinks, but their attitude and service tend to be bullying and dismissive of customers.

Karen's Diner

This restaurant chain is named after a recently popular internet slang term. "Karen" describes a stereotype of a conservative, older woman with a condescending attitude. When unhappy, a "Karen" tends to yell at and intimidate waiters or receptionists.

Karen's Diner's philosophy is to unleash your inner "Karen." Guests are free to get angry and call the manager at any time. Therefore, the restaurant staff will be impolite and tease you whenever possible.

"Our staff are rude, we don't know how to behave. This is the perfect place for Karen from everywhere to come and vent her anger," the restaurant's website describes.

In particular, when making online reservations, restaurants will pay attention to the nationality of the diner to choose sarcastic remarks that are as hurtful as possible. For example, a diner of American nationality will receive a barrage of sarcastic remarks typical of American culture.

For 1800 yen (approximately 32 million VND), tourists can have a maid change her attitude towards service. This employee will become angry, call you a delinquent, make you kneel, and kick you in the back.

Furthermore, the waitresses will not hesitate to verbally abuse and humiliate you in front of other customers in the restaurant. They might even force you to act like a dog and ignore you. Finally, you will receive a souvenir photo of yourself kneeling, along with the time and a cute drawing from the waitress.

However, many customers genuinely enjoy the service and don't mind spending money to be verbally abused by the maid. Cafe CC Ocha first opened in 2014. It is still operating today and is located in Osaka, Japan.

Dick's Last Resort

Dick's Last Resort is a restaurant chain with a deliberately obnoxious staff. On its job posting, Dick's is looking for someone cheerful, able to handle the pressure of constant jokes, and willing to "curse" at customers.

The restaurant intentionally has a somewhat unusual interior design, but still maintains a minimum level of comfort for diners. The restaurant doesn't provide napkins; staff will bring them and throw them directly in your face.
