Doan Manh, the founder and CEO of Combo Home design company, has 8 years of experience in designing and constructing residential and resort properties. He has also spent nearly 10 years traveling and gaining experience.
Sharing with Travellive about AnNam Art, architect Doan Manh said: “An ancient house that still retains the beauty of time with personalized architecture. The homeowner is a veteran artist who, although renovating the house, still respects the old traditions, combining them with suitable materials and architecture, and named it AnNam Art.”
AnNam Art is an art-themed homestay located in the heart of the capital city.
Located at 10, Lane 3B Dang Thai Than Street, Hanoi, the house, predominantly yellow in color, has an area of nearly 50 square meters.2The house features a living room on the ground floor and four bedrooms upstairs, accessed via a wooden staircase along the side, creating a neat and organized space.
Room types will include: rooms with two single beds, rooms with two double beds, and rooms with two double beds, the largest room even having a kitchen area. During the renovation, the bedrooms were divided from the second to the fifth floor, and the structural work, electrical and plumbing systems were rearranged for optimal functionality. Despite spanning two generations, AnNam Art still exudes a refined, timeless charm, evident in the doors, wooden floors, and iron railings, which serve both to ensure the house's safety and to create shadows when the sun shines.

Doan Manh added that, out of respect for the original architecture and a desire to use old materials while still creating a fresh space, the original wooden floor was preserved, combined with pine wood for shelves and cabinets to make the house more cozy. In addition, he purchased clay paint – a mixed paint made from finely ground clay combined with additives from Lam Dong province – to paint the walls. A special feature is that when using old materials for a new space, the tables and chairs were purchased from antique warehouses in Hoi An, and old box sofas were repainted with varnish in simpler colors. The bathroom and kitchen tiles are handcrafted ceramic tiles from Bat Trang.

The house feels alive, a testament to the collection of memories captured in wooden and ceramic pieces, and books gathered over the years and displayed on shelves.
The prints by artist Bui Trong Du, hanging from the living room to the hallway and into the bedrooms, combined with warm yellow lighting, create a resort-like atmosphere, enhancing the experience like never before every time you step into the house.
Pottery, handicrafts, and toys in the house are all creatively designed but rarely sold elsewhere; some items are one-of-a-kind pieces made by artisans. The tabletops, made of bricks from the Phu Lang craft village in Bac Ninh, are combined with wood from Hoi An, creating a house that is a harmonious blend of many elements, yet the materials complement each other perfectly.

“The homeowner is an artist, so the colors are very beautiful and harmonious. The facade is wide, and the space is separate from other houses. In addition, the house's design is culturally rich, with a timeless feel from the windows and wooden floors. The house is very suitable for a homestay rental model and offers a cultural experience, allowing you to feel the passage of time when looking down at the neighbor's roof from above,” said Doan Manh.
Furthermore, the timeless charm of AnNam Art is a crucial element, irreplaceable by the sleek, modern aesthetics of today. Memories and the spirit of a home are priceless.

The timeless beauty of Annam Art
According to Mr. Doan Manh, there are many homestays in Hanoi, but AnNam Art's style is probably unique, because the owner has a very distinct personality. In the heart of the capital, there is a house that still retains the essence, materials, and interior design of Vietnamese culture, not something imported from abroad.
"The spirit of an old house and using old materials to renovate it feels like traveling through the city," said Mr. Doan Manh.
