“New Look New Laque” celebrates the sustainable values that Hanoia aspires to pursue. The story begins with a meeting between Hermès and Hanoia at the Thien Hong workshop, the unit that crafts buffalo horn and lacquerware products for Hermès.

The person in charge of Hermès' Petit h workshop, where the brand develops sustainable projects, inspired Hanoia to create projects that transform leftover and used materials into works of art. This also connected Hanoia with artist Gilles Jonemann, who laid the foundation for Hermès' Petit h workshop. This led to the creation of the "New Look New Laque" exhibition in Vietnam.

"New Look New Laque" is an exhibition featuring 24 artworks.

The 24 pieces displayed at the "New Look New Laque" exhibition are 24 used items including vases, trays, and large bowls from Hanoia, crafted using traditional lacquerware techniques passed down through generations. Gilles Jonemann combined them with old pottery fragments, discarded iron pieces, scraps of brocade, sickles, grass-cutting knives, and bamboo-woven models from the previous century, which the artist collected from ancient villages, antique shops, and construction sites.

These objects, though simple, small, and seemingly worthless, are imbued with the essence of time and the spirit of Vietnamese culture. When assembled and combined with Hanoia lacquerware with perfect precision, they create a beautiful balance and harmony, transforming them into unique works of art that touch the hearts of art lovers.

These 24 contemporary artworks also coincide with the 24-hour timeframe, linking the present and the past to remind us to cherish every moment of today.

The artwork "Meditation" resembles a person sitting in meditation, contemplating life.

Viewers may have different associations with the same work, but they all feel the joy and wonder of life, as if soaring in their own dreams. From Les danseurs (Dancers), Le Riz d'Or (Jewel), L'Ocean (Ocean) to Le Repos (Rest), Le Temps (Time), Le Refuge (Refuge)... all are created from the artist's masterful understanding of proportion and imagination.

Artist Gilles Jonemann shared: “I love objects that breathe the spirit of time, objects that deeply reflect the humble beauty of the past. That's why I chose to collaborate with Hanoia on this exhibition. The main idea of the exhibition is the connection between different eras. Only then does it come to the artistic aspect: the ability to master (or not master) a world of materials, shapes, and colors that evokes a touch of madness, a touch of poetry, a touch of humor, and a spirit of freedom...”
