Spanning the winding Randselva River, The Twist is an impressive architectural project that combines a museum and a bridge. You can visit it to admire the artwork while exploring the Kistefos National Sculpture Park in Norway.

Located in the heart of beautiful Norway, the Kistefos National Sculpture Park was founded in 1996 by Christen Sveaas, a businessman and art collector, on the former site of his family's pulp mill. Its mission is to preserve the area's industrial buildings and heritage while celebrating the finest works of contemporary Norwegian and world art. The park also features works by leading international artists such as Anish Kapoor and Marc Guinn, among others.

“After years of planning and refinement, we are delighted to launch the stunning new space, The Twist, in Kistefos. It will allow us to expand our activities with leading contemporary artists and welcome even more visitors than ever before,” shared Christen Sveaas. “Our ambition is to transform Kistefos into an unmissable cultural destination, with a sculpture park and world-class short-term exhibitions, contributing to the rich industrial heritage of the region.”

The Twist – a unique bridge designed to incorporate a museum, standing out amidst the magnificent beauty of Norwegian nature – is a new structure in Kistefos Park, spanning the Randselva River and connecting the north and south banks. The name The Twist is inspired by its stylish arched architecture with a strikingly distinctive twisted shape in the middle.

Mẫu thiết kế của The Twist được chọn ra từ một cuộc thi quốc tế và đã được công bố từ năm 2015

The Twist's design was selected from an international competition and was first published in 2015.

The museum is shaped like a square wooden axis twisted 90 degrees in the center. This design helps to elevate the building slightly higher at both ends, mimicking the curvature of bridges spanning rivers.

This art space covers an area of approximately 1,000 square meters.2Located along both banks of the river, amidst a dense forest, the museum's roof structure is made of stacked straight aluminum sheets, "like the edges of pages when you run your finger over them."

The Twist vừa là một bảo tàng vừa là một cây cầu, và đồng thời cũng là một tác phẩm điêu khắc

The Twist is both a museum and a bridge, and also a sculpture.

The photographs captured vividly portray the structure's extraordinary beauty: it appears to be rising, slowly emerging from the lush green natural surroundings. The Twist, with its bold design and bright white color, becomes a vibrant force that illuminates the entire space.

Upon entering, visitors will immediately be captivated by the architectural aesthetics inspired by the Space Age (dating back to the launch of the first artificial satellite into space on October 4, 1957). The Twist comprises three separate galleries offering sweeping views of the river and the majestic, picturesque natural landscape outside.

The building has entrances at both ends. From the south end, visitors pass through a fascinating double-height space, offering panoramic views of the entire building all the way to the north entrance. Conversely, visitors from the north entrance enter a vast, expansive space providing views of the paper mill and surrounding landscape.

The Twist officially opened its doors to the public on September 18th.
