Cao Bang Brocade Festival in Ho Chi Minh City

06/11/2013

On November 10th, ethnic minority artisans from the Craftbelt brocade weaving group in Cao Bang will showcase their brocade products at the Renaissance Hotel, 8-15 Ton Duc Thang Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

Artisans will demonstrate the steps involved in weaving a brocade fabric: from spinning yarn, weaving on a loom, hand embroidery, and creating patterns with beeswax. The festival will also feature an exhibition of photographs of Cao Bang's landscapes and people…

This is not just a shopping opportunity; the fair is also a chance for the organizers to seek funding to build a community center for the Hmong Hoa women who produce brocade in Quang Lam commune, Bao Lam district, Cao Bang province.

The fair is one of the activities of a project aimed at improving the livelihoods of ethnic minorities in Cao Bang province through better access to clean water, sanitation, and markets for their brocade products.
