The theater is ideally located at the North Gate of the Sunset Bridge, right on the beach and on the main axis connecting all the experiences of Sunset Town, Phu Quoc. This location not only offers stunning sea views but also provides easy access to other activities and attractions in the area.
From its very name, "À Ơi" – a lullaby sung by mothers and grandmothers – the theater evokes cherished, intimate, and heartfelt memories. "À Ơi" is not simply a name, but a symbol of peaceful moments in Vietnamese culture, where gentle lullabies flow into the soul, nurturing generations. The À Ơi Theater is like a fossil, preserving and transmitting these long-standing cultural values to visitors.
The À Ơi Theater opened its doors on the evening of May 19th in Hoang Hon town, Phu Quoc.
The À Ơi Theatre boasts a harmonious blend of traditional Vietnamese village architecture and the distinctive Italian architectural style of Sunset Town. From the main gate to the stage, visitors can easily recognize traditional Northern Vietnamese features through details such as the soaring curved roofs of communal houses, familiar three-compartment houses, and vibrant decorative motifs like fairies and frog-catching farmers, all bearing the strong imprint of Vietnamese culture.
Viewing the theater from the beach, visitors will be able to admire a space with a distinctly Italian feel, featuring classic pastel colors and softly curved arches. This architecture is inspired by classic structures such as the Roman Colosseum, offering a unique beauty that combines antiquity and elegance.
The first water puppet theater in Vietnam boasts a spacious setting and impressive architecture.
The À Ơi Theatre is not only an artistic destination, but also a place that brings together and celebrates diverse cultural values, offering visitors unforgettable experiences in a space where two unique cultures intersect.
The theater is designed with a 700-seat auditorium, a water stage for water puppetry, and stages for dry puppetry, Quan Ho folk singing, musicals, etc. The theater's landscape design is inspired by the terraced rice fields of Northwest Vietnam, also following the stepped design pattern of Sunset Town.
At the À Ơi Theatre, eight spectacular puppet shows, staged and performed by generations of talented artists, transport viewers into the endless flow of Vietnamese culture. These performances open up a vibrant world where audiences have the opportunity to explore and experience the beauty of traditional festivals, the working life of rice farming, and the spiritual culture and beliefs of the Vietnamese people.
The puppet shows here are well-invested in and are expected to attract many tourists.
Through each delicate puppet movement, viewers are transported back to the vibrant atmosphere of folk festivals, seeing images of hardworking farmers in vast rice fields, and feeling the sacredness of ancestor worship rituals. In particular, the image of the conical hat is used metaphorically, like moonlight or a boat drifting on the waves, creating scenes that are both poetic and mysterious.
From now until June 19th, the theater is offering free tickets to the Vietnamese Puppet show for visitors, with two daily performances at 6:30-6:50 PM and 8:00-8:20 PM.
