TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE'S NEEDS TO SCAM

The peak tourist season is approaching, and this is also the time when scammers are more active. They take advantage of tourists' love of cheap deals to offer attractive offers of cheap travel through social networks, then steal tourists' property.

Taking advantage of people's trust, many discount opportunities have become a disguise for the desire to "stimulate tourism".

Fraudsters often create fake websites and fan pages of reputable travel companies to gain the trust of tourists. Then, they will post information about cheap tours to attract tourists to book tours. These subjects often use social networking sites such as Facebook, Zalo... to advertise cheap tours. They will post beautiful, attractive images of tourist destinations along with extremely attractive invitations to attract tourists.

According to a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association, the growth of independent tourists is inevitable, but when this form of tourism is still quite new to Vietnamese tourists, individual services for this supply chain are limited, quality is not transparent... the risks for independent tourists are very high.

Fraudsters often create fake websites and fanpages of reputable travel companies to gain tourists' trust.

If they are reputable units, the price difference will be equivalent to the quality of service. However, hitting the "cheap" psychology of a part of tourists or due to lack of knowledge about tourism, before and during the "peak" time on social networks, many discount programs, causing customers to get lost in a "matrix", from which they are easily taken advantage of by bad guys to scam and profit.

Faced with the above situation, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has also advised people to carefully research the tour schedule, especially the promotional tours with "shocking" discounts. Before registering for a tour, consumers need to ask the company to provide detailed information such as time, means of transportation, specific sightseeing locations, hotels, meal standards, travel insurance, etc. In particular, they should choose the services of reputable companies and agents to avoid being scammed and to be able to exchange information and reflect on service quality when necessary.

To avoid being scammed, the Ministry of Public Security recommends that people should carefully research information when choosing travel packages, and can ask the partner to show the business license, documents, and practice certificates of the travel and tourism company. For social networking sites (fanpages) that sell and promote travel packages, especially cheap travel packages and cheap air tickets, people should choose social networking sites with a blue tick or choose reputable social networking sites where they know the seller's information. Confirm information about booking rooms and air tickets to promptly detect signs of fraud and report to the nearest police station for guidance on how to handle the situation.

There is no such thing as a "dirt cheap" tour, so to enjoy a safe and relaxing travel season, visitors need to be careful with information and consider carefully when booking a tour.
