EXPLOITING PEOPLE'S NEEDS TO COMMIT FRAUD

With the peak tourist season approaching, scammers are also more active. They exploit tourists' desire for cheap deals by offering attractive cheap travel packages through social media, and then stealing the tourists' money.

Taking advantage of people's trust, many discount opportunities have become a disguised form of "stimulating tourism."

Scammers often create fake websites and fan pages impersonating reputable travel companies to gain the trust of tourists. They then post information about cheap tours to entice visitors to book. These scammers typically use social media platforms like Facebook and Zalo to advertise their cheap tours, posting attractive images of tourist destinations along with enticing offers to attract customers.

According to representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association, the growth in the number of independent travelers is inevitable, but since this form of tourism is still relatively new to Vietnamese tourists, and individual services within this supply chain are limited and lack transparency in quality, the risks for independent travelers are very high.

Các đối tượng lừa đảo thường tạo ra những trang web, fanpage giả mạo các công ty du lịch uy tín để tạo lòng tin cho du khách

Scammers often create fake websites and fan pages impersonating reputable travel companies to gain the trust of tourists.

Reputable companies often have price differences that reflect the quality of service. However, exploiting the "desire for cheap deals" among some tourists or their lack of travel knowledge, many discount programs are advertised on social media before and during peak seasons, leading customers into a "maze" of options and making them vulnerable to scams and fraudulent activities.

In light of the above situation, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has advised people to carefully research the tour itinerary, especially for tours with "shocking" discounts. Before booking a tour, consumers should request that the company provide detailed information such as the duration, transportation, specific sightseeing locations, hotels, meal standards, travel insurance, etc. In particular, they should choose services from reputable companies and agencies to avoid scams and to be able to exchange information and provide feedback on service quality when necessary.

To avoid being scammed, the Ministry of Public Security advises people to carefully research information when choosing travel packages. They can request to see the business license, documents, and professional certificates of the travel company. For social media pages (fan pages) that sell and promote travel packages, especially cheap packages and cheap air tickets, people should choose pages with a blue verification badge or reputable pages where they know the seller's information. Verify booking information and flight ticket details to promptly detect any signs of fraud and report it to the nearest police station for guidance.

There are no "dirt cheap" tours, so to enjoy a relaxing and safe travel season, tourists need to be cautious about information and carefully consider their options when booking a tour.
