Thuy Xuan incense village

Nestled at the foot of Vong Canh Hill, Thuy Xuan is a peaceful and prosperous village with a picturesque and charming landscape. Thuy Xuan is one of Hue's traditional craft villages with a very long history, located just 7 km southwest of Hue city center.

Most of the households living here are engaged in incense production. Thuy Xuan incense is produced entirely by hand, following a traditional family recipe, including precious herbs such as five-spice Chinese medicine, cardamom, pine buds, star anise, cinnamon, cloves… and especially agarwood essential oil, creating incense sticks with a unique fragrance.

Initially, Thuy Xuan incense only came in two basic colors: red and brown. Later, to create more beautiful and eye-catching incense sticks, the artisans successfully mixed different colors to dye the incense. Visitors can admire the beautiful sight of the villagers bundling the incense sticks into large bunches, spreading them out into vibrant clusters, and drying them in the sun. The entire area is filled with a warm, pure fragrance, like a giant flower field. Especially during the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), Thuy Xuan village is an interesting destination not only because of the bustling atmosphere of the incense production facilities but also because of the myriad of vibrant colors.

Thanh Tien Paper Flower Village

Located in Phu Mau commune, Phu Vang district, Thanh Tien paper flower village has a history of nearly 400 years, dating back to the Nguyen dynasty. The craft of making paper flowers here originated from the folk religious beliefs of the people of the ancient capital. Sinh Village is the Nôm name for Lai An village in the ancient capital of Hue, a small village situated on the banks of the romantic Perfume River.
