On May 11th, Mr. Phan Ngoc Tho, Chairman of Thua Thien Hue province, requested the Hue Imperial Citadel Relics Conservation Center to promptly study the construction of a Museum of Education and Examinations right in the space of the Quoc Tu Giam (Imperial Academy) relic site, after the artifacts of the Thua Thien Hue History Museum are moved to a new location.
Mr. Tho instructed the Hue Ancient Citadel Relics Conservation Center, after taking over the Quoc Tu Giam (Imperial Academy), to promptly dismantle the fences, renovate the grounds, ensure the landscape of the relic area, and synchronize with the sidewalk renovation project on August 23rd Street; and to develop the relic into a Museum of Education and Examinations based on a system of documents, scientific and historical foundations. The Thua Thien Hue Department of Education and Training was also requested to plan the organization of competitions and honor outstanding students at Quoc Tu Giam so that students can better understand the land where they were born, nurture pride in national traditions, and better preserve cultural heritage.

The Imperial Academy (Quốc Tử Giám) was established by the Nguyễn dynasty during the reign of Emperor Gia Long under the name Đốc học đường (School of the Imperial Academy) in An Ninh Thượng (now Hương Hồ ward, Hương Trà town) to train talented individuals for the country. In 1908, Emperor Duy Tân realized that the Imperial Academy's location in An Ninh Thượng was too far from the capital city, so he moved it to its current location within the Huế imperial city at 1, 23rd August Street.
In 1976, the Thua Thien Hue History Museum was established, using the Quoc Tu Giam (Imperial Academy) as its headquarters to display nearly 30,000 artifacts. Currently, the Thua Thien Hue History Museum is relocating its artifacts from Quoc Tu Giam to a new location at 268 Dien Bien Phu Street to hand over the site to the Hue Ancient Citadel Conservation Center for restoration and preservation.
