12/05/2020

The Imperial Academy in Hue was established under the reign of King Gia Long to train the country's talents. It later became the headquarters of the Thua Thien Hue History Museum, displaying nearly 30,000 artifacts. In the near future, this relic will become the Museum of Education and Examinations.

On May 11, Mr. Phan Ngoc Tho, Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Province, requested the Hue Monuments Conservation Center to soon study and build the Museum of Education and Examinations right at the Imperial Academy relic site, after the artifacts of the Thua Thien Hue History Museum are moved to a new location.

Mr. Tho assigned the Hue Monuments Conservation Center after receiving the Imperial Academy to urgently dismantle the fence, renovate the campus, ensure the landscape of the relic area and synchronize with the project of renovating the sidewalks of August 23rd Street; build the relic into the Museum of Education and Examinations based on a system of documents, scientific and historical foundations. The Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien Hue was also asked to plan to organize competitions, honor excellent students at the Imperial Academy so that students can better understand the land where they were born, nurture pride in national traditions, and better preserve cultural heritages.

The Imperial Academy was established by the Nguyen Dynasty under King Gia Long with the name of Doc Hoc Duong in An Ninh Thuong (now Huong Ho Ward, Huong Tra Town) to be a place to train the country's talents. In 1908, King Duy Tan realized that the location of the Imperial Academy in An Ninh Thuong was far from the capital, so he moved it to inside the Hue capital as it is now at No. 1, 23/8 Street.

In 1976, the Thua Thien Hue History Museum was established, using the Quoc Tu Giam relic as the headquarters to display nearly 30,000 artifacts. Currently, the Thua Thien Hue History Museum has moved the artifacts from the Quoc Tu Giam to a new location at 268 Dien Bien Phu Street to hand over the relic to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center for restoration and preservation.
