According to the People's Committee of Thua Thien - Hue, since the beginning of 2020, the tourism industry in the province has seen many improvements. In January alone, the number of visitors increased by 22.01%, revenue increased by 14.89% over the same period last year. However, from February onwards, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic and the decision to lock down the epidemic nationwide, Hue's tourism industry suffered many serious losses. In the first 4 months of 2020, the number of tourists to Hue reached about 940,069, down 50% over the same period. The estimated loss is about 2,250 billion VND, of which the direct loss from tourism businesses is more than 700 billion VND.
Since the end of April, after the Government lifted the social distancing order, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province has decided to waive 100% of entrance fees to visit relics until May 7, attracting over 22,000 domestic visitors.
On the rise, Hue continues to implement a program of reducing ticket prices by 50% from May 8 to July 31, 2020, to stimulate demand and restore the tourism industry in the province. It is expected that from August, depending on the situation of domestic tourists and other international tourist markets, the province will consider further reducing entrance fees to attract visitors in the remaining months, but not more than 50%.
In addition to ticket discounts, the tourism industry of Thua Thien - Hue province will also organize a National Tourism Conference at the end of May to connect with accommodation and tourism service businesses and announce the province's stimulus packages; connect with Da Nang and Quang Nam to form preferential tour programs linking the Central region. The province will also consider adding free art performances in the Imperial City at a fixed time frame to serve the needs of tourists.
From now until the end of 2020, the tourism industry of Thua Thien - Hue will also focus on developing and organizing attractive festivals and events, creating highlights to attract tourists such as: Hue Festival 2020; Hue Festival - Culinary Capital; Hue Festival - Ao Dai Capital and other festivals such as: Hue International Lion Dance Festival, Hue Hiphop Festival.
