After a period of disruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic, commercial flights at Van Don International Airport (Quang Ninh) will resume operations from May 4th, starting with the Van Don – Ho Chi Minh City route. Specifically, the Van Don – Ho Chi Minh City route will be operated by Vietjet Air with a frequency of 1 flight/day on all days of the week. Vietnam Airlines will also operate this route from May 16th with a frequency of 4 flights/week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays), and Bamboo Airways will operate it from June 1st with a frequency of 1 flight/day on all days of the week. Another domestic route reopened from May 16th is the Van Don – Da Nang route, operated by Vietnam Airlines with a frequency of 3 flights/week (Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays).

Van Don Airport is promoting the opening of new domestic routes to Phu Quoc or Nha Trang around the fourth quarter of 2020; simultaneously, it is promoting the opening of new international routes to Van Don using series charter and charter methods (private charter flights for tourists of a travel agency), focusing on routes from China and South Korea (expected to open in the early fourth quarter of 2020 after these countries have controlled the epidemic and allowed the resumption of international commercial flights). This activity meets the travel needs of people between the aforementioned localities in the context of the Covid-19 epidemic gradually being controlled and social distancing and travel restrictions being gradually lifted.

Notably, in the near future, passengers arriving at or departing from Van Don Airport will benefit from the following promotions: Free entrance tickets to Ha Long Bay and Yen Tu; free bus service between Ha Long and Van Don and vice versa; a 50% discount on cable car services at the Yen Tu historical and scenic site; discounted tickets at Sun Group's entertainment complexes nationwide such as Sun World Halong Complex, Sun World Ba Na Hills, Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park, as well as discounted tours/stays at Sun Group's hotels and resorts...

Not only does Van Don Airport offer incentives to customers, but it also applies preferential policies to airlines: a 50% reduction in basic ground handling fees for international flights and a 70% reduction for domestic flights; and a 50% reduction in landing and takeoff service fees for regular international flights. These incentives are not only applied during the Covid-19 pandemic but will also be extended throughout 2020.

During this period, Van Don Airport will continue to maintain all previously implemented disease prevention measures. Accordingly, the airport will require passengers to wear face masks throughout the check-in process at the terminal, post notices, and use loudspeakers to guide passengers in complying with disease prevention regulations. The airport will also provide hand sanitizer at check-in counters, terminal entrances, and staff offices; and conduct temperature checks for passengers. For flights arriving from affected areas (if any), the airport will continue to maintain special aviation procedures outside the terminal to ensure passenger safety and prevent cross-infection.
