Van Don International Airport (Quang Ninh) will welcome a B373-800 aircraft departing from Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport (China), scheduled to take off at 11:05 PM and land at Van Don at 1:30 AM on May 27th. Subsequent flights will take place on June 10th, June 17th, and October 27th. These are the first international flights operated at Van Don International Airport since its inauguration and commissioning on December 30th, 2018. In June 2019, additional charter flights from Nanning (China), Incheon (South Korea), and Taiwan (China) will be added to Van Don. By October and December 2019, there will be two more routes from Thailand and Narita (Japan) to Van Don International Airport.
Van Don Airport will welcome its first international flight on May 27, 2019.
For domestic flights, in addition to the current Van Don – Ho Chi Minh City route with 2 flights/day, routes connecting Van Don with Da Nang, Phu Quoc, and Nha Trang are expected to be launched in the third quarter of 2019. Currently, three domestic airlines: Vietnam Airlines, VietJet, and Bamboo Airways are operating flights at Van Don with a frequency of 2 flights/day. After 5 months of operation, Van Don International Airport has handled nearly 600 flights with almost 70,000 passengers, achieving an occupancy rate of over 70% per flight.

Recently, the Airport Quality Management Program (APMP) recognized Van Don International Airport as one of the top 5 airports with the highest service scores in the first quarter of 2019. The survey was conducted on 47 airports operated by Vietnam Airlines worldwide, based on the index of the British aviation rating and ranking organization Skytrax. Besides Van Don International Airport, other major international airports in the top 5 include: Fukuoka Airport (Japan), Sydney Airport (Australia), Kaohsiung International Airport (Taiwan), and Taoyuan International Airport (Taiwan).
