Van Don International Airport (Quang Ninh) will welcome the B373-800 aircraft departing from Bao An International Airport, Shenzhen (China), scheduled to take off at 11:05 p.m. and land at Van Don at 1:30 a.m. on May 27. The next flights will take place on June 10, June 17, and October 27. These are the first international flights operated at Van Don International Airport after being inaugurated and put into operation on December 30, 2018. In June 2019, there will be more charter flights from Nanning (China), Incheon (Korea), and Taiwan (China) to Van Don. By October and December 2019, there will be two more flights from Thailand and Narita (Japan) to Van Don International Airport.

For domestic flights, in addition to the current Van Don - Ho Chi Minh City route with a frequency of 2 flights/day, the route connecting Van Don with Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang is expected to be put into operation in the third quarter of 2019. Currently, there are 3 domestic airlines: Vietnam Airlines, VietJet and Bamboo Airway operating flights at Van Don with a frequency of 2 flights/day. After 5 months of operation, Van Don International Airport has had nearly 600 flights with nearly 70,000 passengers passing through the port, with an occupancy rate of over 70% per flight.

Recently, the Airport Quality Management Program (APMP) recognized Van Don International Airport as one of the five airports with the highest service scores in the first quarter of 2019. The survey was conducted on 47 airports that Vietnam Airlines is operating worldwide, based on the index set of the British aviation rating and ranking organization - Skytrax. In addition to Van Don International Airport, other large-scale international airports in the top 5 include: Fukuoka Airport (Japan), Sydney Airport (Australia), Kaohsiung International Airport (Taiwan) and Taoyuan International Airport (Taiwan).
