The seven competitors from around the world include: Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport (USA), Carlisle Lake District Airport (UK), Corvera Airport Murcia (Spain), Eilat Ramon Airport (Israel), Pakyong Airport (India), Seletar Airport (Singapore), and Yogyakarta Adisucipto Airport (Indonesia).
The "World's Leading New Airport" award was first presented by the WTA last year. This award is based on rigorous evaluation criteria regarding overall airport design, service quality, and passenger satisfaction, with a particular emphasis on enhancing the customer experience through the application of new technologies.
Vietnam's Van Don International Airport has excellently met these criteria, deserving the award.
Van Don Airport boasts impressive architecture, inspired by the beauty of the World Heritage site – Ha Long Bay. The structure bears the strong imprint of local culture, with its vibrant orange-red dome resembling sails billowing in the wind, stacked upon each other and facing the vast ocean. Local architectural materials such as wood, steel, glass, stone, water, and trees are used flexibly in all architectural and interior details, creating a space that is close to and in harmony with nature.

Van Don International Airport (Doan Ket commune, Van Don district, Quang Ninh province) has a total investment of 7,463 billion VND. This is the first international airport invested in by a private corporation in Vietnam and was completed in just two years of construction.
Van Don International Airport is a 4E-class airport (according to the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO standard code), capable of accommodating all types of the world's most modern aircraft such as the Boeing 787, with 7 parking positions, including 3 remote parking bays and 4 close parking bays. The terminal's capacity in phase 1 is 2.5 million passengers per year and is expected to reach 5 million passengers per year by 2030.

It is also a source of pride and motivation for us to continue to improve and enhance the quality of our services, bringing the best experiences to our customers.”

According to the latest figures as of November 22nd, there have been 1,796 flights taking off and landing at Van Don International Airport, including 117 international flights. The total number of passengers passing through the airport reached nearly 235,000, including nearly 10,000 international passengers.
Despite having been operational for less than a year, Van Don Airport has consistently been honored with prestigious international awards. In October 2019, Van Don Airport beat three other candidates to become the only airport to receive the Leading New Airport in Asia award at the WTA Asia-Oceania regional awards ceremony held in Phu Quoc.
