The world's largest airport has just been completed.

After construction and testing were completed, Beijing Daxing International Airport is preparing for full operation, scheduled to open on October 1, 2019, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the National Day of the People's Republic of China.

Beijing Daxing International Airport is expected to serve the cities of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei. Currently, China United Airlines has chosen this airport as its base of operations. The airport is being built as Beijing Capital International Airport is becoming overloaded, despite the recent construction of Terminal 3.

Beijing Daxing International Airport has eight civilian runways and one military runway, and is expected to handle between 120 and 200 million passengers annually. The first phase of the project covers an area of ​​55 square kilometers and includes the construction of four runways. When the airport officially opens, Beijing Nanyuan Airport will be closed, and all flights from Nanyuan will be transferred to the new airport.

Beijing Daxing International Airport is connected to Beijing by highway and high-speed rail, with an estimated travel time of 30 minutes by rail between the airport and Beijing. China has invested approximately $60 billion in the construction of this airport. By 2015, the airport was expected to serve 72 million passengers and 620,000 flights annually. Capacity is projected to increase to 100 million passengers and 880,000 flights by 2040.
