This event is not only significant for the resort, but it also marks a major milestone for Vietnam's tourism industry as it hosts, for the second time, one of the world's largest tourism events, bringing together hundreds of representatives from the tourism, resort, and spa industries from around the globe.
This can be considered a very successful start to the year for JW Marriott Phu Quoc resort, as they have continuously received many major awards from the global tourism industry: the title of “Best New Resort in Asia” awarded at the World Travel Awards™ Asia & Australasia in June; Chanterelle – Spa by JW was honored as “Best New Luxury Spa in Southeast Asia 2017” at the World Luxury Spa & Restaurant Awards. Most recently, JW Marriott Phu Quoc just won a “double” at the World Luxury Hotel Awards 2017 with two important awards: Best New Luxury Resort in Asia and Best Designed Resort in Vietnam.
According to the chairman of Sun Group Investment Corporation, combining the World Travel Awards Final Ceremony 2017 and the World Spa Awards 2017 is a special and historic event, not only for the World Travel Awards organization but also an unprecedented honor for the host venue, JW Marriott Phu Quoc.
As the host of this major international event, JW Marriott Phu Quoc welcomed over 250 guests, including government leaders, industry experts, and journalists from the region and around the world. This was also the largest and most spectacular event the resort has ever hosted since its opening in January of this year. In its first year of operation, the resort has continuously hosted many important events both domestically and internationally, proudly showcasing its unique architecture by designer Bill Bensley and the world-class service of the JW Marriott brand, becoming a prestigious symbol on Phu Quoc Island.
“2017 was a memorable year for us as we were honored to receive the World Travel Awards and World Spa Awards, a clear testament to our efforts in the resort's first year of operation. And most importantly, we were delighted to host the two major events, the World Travel Awards Final Ceremony 2017 and the World Spa Awards 2017, both taking place on a single night,” shared Ty Collins, General Manager of the resort.
He added, “JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay is one of the world's most unique resorts, perhaps that's why it was chosen to host two prestigious global events attracting many distinguished guests from the global tourism and hospitality industry. On behalf of all staff, I would like to express my sincere and deepest gratitude to Sun Group, the guests who chose us as their vacation destination over the past year, as well as the WTA and WSA organizations for their support and encouragement in making this event such a success and a memorable one.”
Located on the pearl island of Phu Quoc, with its turquoise sea, white sand, and breathtaking sunsets over Khem Beach, the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay resort boasts a sophisticated design by renowned architect Bill Bensley, based on a fictional story about the legendary Lamarck University. This is perfectly complemented by world-class services from the global JW Marriott brand.
The resort comprises 239 guest rooms, suites, and villas spread across the Bai Kem area, offering guests a sense of private ownership. The theme is a fictional university from the 1880s to 1940s, with buildings, restaurants, and public areas named after different faculties and painted in vibrant colors that blend perfectly with the turquoise sea and the lush green of the surrounding mountains and forests. At the heart of the resort is Rue de Lamarck, inspired by the ancient town of Hoi An, featuring shops showcasing handicrafts, traditional cafes and bakeries, as well as one of Phu Quoc's best spas, providing a pleasant shopping and experiential experience for both guests and visitors.

While staying here, guests also have the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities such as snorkeling, squid fishing, kayaking, or simply relax while enjoying a good book on the beautiful beach or immerse themselves in the cool water of one of the resort's three stunning outdoor swimming pools. As the resort's only luxury spa, Chanterelle - Spa by JW will take guests on a unique journey inspired by the fairy tale "Alice in Wonderland," creating a wonderful experience in a creative and free-spirited space. The interior is presented and arranged in a unified and harmonious way according to the theme of mushrooms, a food long recognized by the French for its effective medicinal properties. The walls and ceilings of Chanterelle - Spa by JW are decorated with thousands of paintings of different types of mushrooms, creating a magical space and providing a relaxing feeling for guests. Inside the spa, Bill Bensley also showed great creativity by building a pristine white corridor with a ceiling of asymmetrical curves, creating a layered effect that evokes the scene of Alice falling down the rabbit hole.
The World Travel Awards were established in 1993 to recognize, reward, and honor organizations and groups in all sectors of the global travel industry. Meanwhile, the World Spa Awards, a prestigious industry award launched in 2015, aims to raise the standards of the spa and wellness industry by rewarding and encouraging outstanding organizations in this field.
