24/10/2016

Once voted "Asia's Most Influential Designer," designer Joe Chia left a strong and unforgettable impression on Vietnamese audiences and fashion enthusiasts with his collection, which was designed to represent a miniature Malaysia.

The mysterious and highly wearable monochrome black collection showcased at the recent Vietnam International Fashion Week Spring/Summer has undoubtedly left audiences eagerly anticipating his upcoming Autumn/Winter collection, also presented at the prestigious Vietnam International Fashion Week Autumn/Winter, taking place from November 1-6 at the National Convention Center in Hanoi.

Joe Chia is a talented designer from Malaysia who has received numerous awards, including the Best Menswear Designer award from Newman magazine; being named one of the Top 40 Under 40 by Pretige magazine – one of Asia's most influential publications; the Asian's Industry Choice award at STYLO Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2013; the Most Influential Designer in Asia at Malaysia Fashion Week 2014; and being one of the 50 recipients of the LVMH Award in 2015.

Joe Chia's designs subtly reflect a classic fashion style. His statement is about breaking the boundaries of conventional clothing, prioritizing practicality while retaining traditional cultural elements. He spent a great deal of time experimenting with different styles to understand himself and determine what he truly liked. He believes that style isn't about following trends or brands, but about personal individuality. Once you understand yourself, you'll know which style to pursue.

Joe Chia has established his style through designs that, while monochromatic, incorporate large folds and darts running along the body of the garment, meticulously crafted down to the last stitch. Audiences will be impressed by his use of large volumes of fabric contrasting with soft cuts, without losing the overall free-spirited character. This unique blend of masculinity and femininity in a single design is what sets Joe Chia apart from other designers.

Aiming to continue making a strong impression on Vietnamese audiences and fashion enthusiasts through the prestigious fashion show, the most anticipated event of the year, Vietnam International Fashion Week, Joe Chia hopes that the audience can feel the connection between the meticulously crafted pieces in each of his outfits. For him, people are also made up of different pieces, but above all, we always have an invisible and special connection. The main colors this time are still dark shades such as burgundy, gold, and dark brown, characteristic of Joe Chia. Another revelation is that for this collection, Joe Chia will apply a new sewing and fabric treatment technique, allowing him to further elevate his creative ideas into complete garments.

It's safe to say that Vietnam International Fashion Week 2016 was honored to welcome back renowned international designers, including Joe Chia. At Vietnam International Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016, designer Joe Chia presented a brand-new collection deeply rooted in the religious traditions of his country and reflecting a miniature Malaysia. Fashion enthusiasts can certainly look forward to another outstanding collection from this talented designer.
