Peugeot Traveller - MPV achieves 5-star European safety rating.

16/08/2019

In Euro NCAP crash tests, the Peugeot Traveller achieved good results in protecting the driver and passengers thanks to its many safety technologies.

On long journeys in family cars, MPVs (Massively Multi-Purpose Vehicles) often offer the highest level of comfort thanks to their spacious interiors. To meet the growing demands of users, MPVs are equipped with numerous amenities and features that cater not only to passenger transport services but also to the daily needs of families. The Peugeot Traveller is a prime example of this.

Launched in May, the French MPV is assembled at Truong Hai's factory in Chu Lai, Quang Nam, the same facility that produces the 3008 and 5008 models. Besides its premium features, Peugeot's MPV also meets the 5-star safety standards of the Euro NCAP new car assessment organization.

In the crash test results, the Traveller provided good protection for the head and legs of the driver and front passenger. When crashing into a stationary obstacle at 64 km/h, the Traveller's cabin remained stable. The engine compartment and front shock absorbers effectively reduced the impact force on the cabin. Furthermore, all seating positions in Peugeot's MPV offer a good level of passenger protection, including for children.

In side impact tests, the Traveller achieved the highest score. When subjected to a side impact at 50 km/h and a collision with a solid object at 32 km/h, all occupants were safely protected, with curtain airbags and seat belts helping to reduce injuries. The overall assessment showed that the Peugeot MPV protected 87% of adults, 91% of children, and 64% of pedestrians (reducing injury in the event of an accident). The vehicle's safety technologies were rated at 78%. The test results for the Peugeot Traveller are equivalent to a 5-star safety rating according to Euro NCAP standards, the highest possible rating.

The Traveller utilizes the new EMP2 chassis platform. This new chassis is highly modular, allowing for various wheelbase options (long or short), and ground clearance (low or high). Compared to its predecessor, the new chassis is 70 kg lighter and uses high-strength steel, aluminum, magnesium alloys, and other composite materials. Peugeot states that the new chassis structure offers excellent load-bearing capacity and high stability during operation. Thanks to the reduced chassis weight, fuel consumption is also optimized. According to the manufacturer, the Traveller has a combined fuel consumption of 6.3 liters/100 km.

For many car buyers, convenience is a key consideration, but safety features are given even more attention. The French MPV boasts many of today's leading safety features. The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) reduces the risk of wheel slippage during emergency braking at high speeds. Brake force is optimally distributed to the wheels thanks to the Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) system, resulting in maximum braking efficiency. In addition, the Traveller also features other safety systems such as Electronic Stability Control (ESP), Anti-slip Regulation (ASR), and Grip Control.

On long journeys, drivers can become distracted for a moment, making driver assistance technologies crucial. The Traveller features a lane departure warning system that alerts the driver when the vehicle is drifting into another lane without using a turn signal. The blind spot monitoring system provides a warning when a vehicle is visible in the mirror's blind spot, allowing the driver to maintain focus in real-world traffic conditions. Sensors at the front and rear, combined with a 180-degree camera system, make reversing easier, even in tight spaces.

In addition, the Traveller has many other features that optimally support passenger transport. For child passengers, the vehicle has ISOFIX seats for added safety. According to Euro NCAP test results, this seat system provides good protection for children aged 18 to 36 months. Meanwhile, the driver is assisted by a child observation mirror system. The cabin is equipped with motion sensors to detect people or animals left behind in the vehicle when the doors are locked. The sliding doors on the Traveller are anti-pinch, ensuring user safety.

In Vietnam, the Traveller is equipped with a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 150 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 370 Nm at 2,000 rpm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Luxury version is priced at 1.699 billion VND.
