Currently, Phu Quoc city welcomes tourists from more than 150 countries and territories, with many direct flights from countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan, Shanghai, and numerous charter flights from Greece, Dubai, Singapore, India, Russia, Japan, etc.

The period from October to April of the following year is usually the peak tourist season in Phu Quoc, with many additional or increased flight routes. Many businesses in the travel, hotel, and restaurant sectors on the island are preparing their facilities, personnel, and products to be ready to welcome tourists.

Among the top 10 international tourist markets visiting Phu Quoc, South Korea ranks first in terms of visitor numbers.

According to the Kien Giang Department of Tourism, Phu Quoc is currently the only destination in Vietnam with a special visa policy for foreigners and Vietnamese citizens holding foreign passports. Entry, exit, and residence on the island are visa-free, with a temporary stay of up to 30 days.

This visa exemption policy simplifies procedures for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) groups, which typically have a large number of participants. Thanks to this policy, many international flights are now operating in Phu Quoc, with regular flights connecting to South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia, and soon more routes to Northern Europe, North America, and Central Asia.

For Southeast Asian markets, Phu Quoc receives flights from Malaysia operated by AirAsia with a frequency of 1 pair of flights/day; flights from Thailand to Phu Quoc are operated by two airlines: Thai Vietjet with a frequency of 2 pairs of flights/day and AirAsia with a frequency of 1 pair of flights/day; flights from Singapore are operated by Scoot Airlines with a frequency of 5 pairs of flights/week.

From January 1, 2021, Phu Quoc officially became a city, retaining the entire natural area and population size of Phu Quoc district (Kien Giang province). This is Vietnam's first island city, bordering Ha Tien city, Kien Luong district, and neighboring countries such as Cambodia and Thailand.
