Quang Nam Provincial Government agreed to host the National Tourism Year 2022 with the theme"Quang Nam - Green tourist destination"The opening ceremony is scheduled for March 25, 2022 in Hoi An city, and the closing ceremony will take place at the end of December 2022 in Thang Binh district.
It is known that tourism is a key economic sector, bringing in the main income for Quang Nam province. However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the number of tourists to the locality has decreased sharply, the streets are deserted, restaurants are deserted, and especially accommodation service businesses have stopped operating. Realizing that the pandemic will likely last longer, Quang Nam has transformed the tourism market towards green and environmentally friendly tourism, committed to participating and creating conditions to reduce waste.
“Green tourism is the key for Quang Nam to follow the model of responsible tourism, ensuring sustainable development orientation in the future. From there, the locality can grasp the trend, exploit new, diverse, attractive destinations that are suitable to the needs of the tourist market” - Mr. Phan Xuan Thanh, Chairman of Quang Nam Tourism Association commented.

Currently, in addition to the ancient town of Hoi An and the famous My Son temple complex, Quang Nam also has Cu Lao Cham which has "said no to plastic bags" since 2009 and is also the first locality in the country to commit to saying no to plastic straws. People and traders on the island use environmentally friendly ecological materials such as paper bags, mesh bags, baskets to go to the market; use leaves such as banana leaves, taro leaves, almond leaves, etc. on the island to wrap goods instead of plastic bags. In particular, plastic waste that flows into the island is collected, classified and recycled weekly by the local authorities.
In recent years, Cu Lao Cham has attracted a lot of tourists, especially international tourists because of the green destination trend. Most of the people who used to work in fishing and seafood exploitation have now switched to tourism and services on the island with the average income per capita being among the highest in the rural areas of Quang Nam province. The remaining people who fish for seafood have also moved to other sea areas to create conditions for sea turtles to lay eggs.
Scuba diving to see coral and sea turtles at Cu Lao Cham is a popular experience for many international tourists.
In addition, in the province there are other emerging green destinations such as An Nhien Farm, Kybimơ Garden, Heal Organic Farm, Bay Mau Coconut Forest or Tra Que, Thanh Dong, An My vegetable gardens... together implementing many activities to protect nature, reduce emissions to the environment, towards the common goal of sustainable development.
According to the green tourism development plan until 2025, Quang Nam province aims to attract 12 million visitors, achieve 26 trillion VND in tourism revenue, and attract 23 thousand tourism workers. Each year, build at least 1 model according to the Green Tourism Criteria; by 2025, build about 10 - 20 green tourism models.
