The decision was made at the request of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in a document dated May 26 and a document of the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee dated May 8 on hosting the National Tourism Year 2021.
The document sent by the Ministry to the Prime Minister stated that according to the plan, the opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year 2020 with the theme Hoa Lu - the thousand-year-old ancient capital will take place on the evening of February 22 at Dinh Tien Hoang De Square, Ninh Binh province and more than 100 events will take place throughout the year.
However, due to the complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Organizing Committee of the National Tourism Year 2020 has stopped organizing the opening ceremony and important events and activities to strictly implement the epidemic prevention work. Up to now, the COVID-19 epidemic situation in the world is still complicated, the organization of the National Tourism Year 2020 - Hoa Lu - Ninh Binh is difficult to achieve the goals and effectiveness as planned.
Therefore, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism supports the proposal of the People's Committee of Ninh Binh province to continue hosting the National Tourism Year 2021. The activities of the National Tourism Year 2020 according to the approved program will be carried out in 2021.
Mr. Bui Van Manh - Deputy Director of Ninh Binh Department of Tourism, said this is good news for the province's tourism industry, hoping that Ninh Binh tourism next year will strongly contribute to restarting the country's tourism industry.
Mr. Manh also said that in 2019, Ninh Binh welcomed nearly 7.6 million tourists, of which 5.4 million were in the first 6 months of 2019. But this year, although it is the National Tourism Year in Ninh Binh, the province has only welcomed 1.4 million visitors in the past 5 months.
