The decision was made following a proposal from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in a document dated May 26th and a document from the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee dated May 8th regarding hosting the National Tourism Year 2021.
The Ministry's document sent to the Prime Minister clearly states that, according to the plan, the opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year 2020, themed "Hoa Lu - the thousand-year-old ancient capital," will take place on the evening of February 22nd at Dinh Tien Hoang Emperor Square, Ninh Binh province, and more than 100 events will be held throughout the year.
However, due to the complex developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Organizing Committee of the National Tourism Year 2020 has canceled the opening ceremony and other important events and activities in order to strictly implement disease prevention and control measures. To date, the Covid-19 pandemic situation worldwide remains complex, making it difficult to achieve the goals and effectiveness of the National Tourism Year 2020 - Hoa Lu - Ninh Binh as planned.
Therefore, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism supports the proposal of the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee to continue hosting the National Tourism Year 2021, and the activities of the National Tourism Year 2020 according to the approved program will be implemented in 2021.
Mr. Bui Van Manh, Deputy Director of the Ninh Binh Department of Tourism, said this is good news for the province's tourism industry, and he hopes that Ninh Binh tourism will make a strong contribution to restarting the national tourism industry next year.
Mr. Manh also stated that in 2019, Ninh Binh welcomed nearly 7.6 million tourists, with 5.4 million visitors in the first six months alone. However, this year, despite it being the National Tourism Year in Ninh Binh, the province has only received 1.4 million visitors in the past five months.
