Talking to Travellive, artist Nguyen Dinh Tuyen shared: "Quyen is the harmony and connection between nature and people, between history and modernity. Everything appears with simplicity, closeness, not showing off but coming from sincere feelings, not challenging and full of creativity. For me, lacquer material is very unique, it also requires patience of the artist".
Painter Nguyen Dinh Tuyen was born in 1968 in Hanoi and graduated from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, majoring in lacquer. With four solo exhibitions, he has also received many valuable awards in the painting community both domestically and internationally. In particular, he attended the art creation camp at the Beijing International Biennial Art Exhibition in 2003, one of the organizations that especially highlighted the position of lacquer in contemporary Chinese art and on the international stage. Many of his works are still preserved at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, as well as in collections at home and abroad.
Painter Nguyen Dinh Tuyen said: “I want to use simple, familiar images that are imbued with Vietnamese spirit in my paintings. I mix and transform them with my hands, renewing things that seem old with emotional strokes.”
In 35 years of creating art, painter Nguyen Dinh Tuyen has remained faithful to the lacquer material. Fully exploiting the characteristics of traditional lacquer with a classic color palette: red, yellow, black and a red background... It is the contrast of the color blocks that makes a strong visual impression when placed next to each other.
The male artist’s works are often inspired by his love for his homeland and nature, bearing the imprint of the Northern Delta countryside. These can be banana leaves, lotus flowers, banyan trees, ferry docks, and communal houses’ yards, which he skillfully and uniquely incorporates into his paintings.

Painter Nguyen Dinh Tuyen, with his realistic brushwork, brings viewers to familiar yet sweet natural landscapes through the use of light and dark accents and warm colors. Following traditional techniques, each of his works not only expresses an idea, a beauty, but also contains deep emotions. Only when seeing with your own eyes and touching each stroke can one clearly feel the artist's dedication to each work.

Commenting on Nguyen Dinh Tuyen's works, painter Quang Viet said: "His paintings are truly records of intimate stories, moods, and emotional states embodied through everything he sees directly with his eyes, even with his touch, or just by feeling them in very private spaces and times.
Here, there is a constant combination between painting and graphics, between painting and decoration, between 'painting' and 'drawing', between 'drawing' and 'smearing', between physical color images and cognitive color images. Especially sometimes there is a very strong contrast between red and blue, or a sudden, stimulating brightness from the lines, the pure white patches that seem to only be found in oil painting... All of these have increased Nguyen Dinh Tuyen's lacquer with modern spiritual qualities and values, as well as the ability to transform objective, concrete images into abstract, subjective images.

Sharing his plans for the future, artist Nguyen Dinh Tuyen added that his paintings will explore other themes, more modern and concise. This exhibition concludes a series of seamless paintings. For him, paintings are like artists, they represent a person's outlook on life. Artists must always explore and exploit to find new things and inspiration for artistic creation.
