"Entwined" is an exhibition featuring 28 lacquer paintings by artist Nguyen Dinh Tuyen. In a realistic and simple world of harmony between man and nature, "Entwined" has been the recurring theme in the artist's work for about 10 years.

In a conversation with Travellive, artist Nguyen Dinh Tuyen shared: "The blend is a harmony and connection between nature and humanity, between history and modernity. Everything is presented in a simple, intimate way, without any ostentation, stemming from genuine feelings, without pretense, and with utmost creativity. For me, lacquer is a very unique medium; it also demands patience from the artist."
Artist Nguyen Dinh Tuyen was born in 1968 in Hanoi and graduated from the Vietnam Fine Arts University with a major in lacquer painting. He has held four solo exhibitions and received numerous prestigious awards in the art world both domestically and internationally. Notably, he participated in an art workshop at the 2003 Beijing Biennial International Art Exhibition, an event that particularly highlighted the position of lacquer painting in contemporary Chinese art and on the international stage. Many of his works are currently preserved at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, as well as in collections both in Vietnam and abroad.
Artist Nguyen Dinh Tuyen said: "I want to bring simple, familiar images that are deeply rooted in Vietnamese culture into my paintings. I blend and transform them through my hands, renewing things that seem old with emotionally charged brushstrokes."
Throughout his 35 years of artistic creation, painter Nguyen Dinh Tuyen has remained faithful to the medium of lacquer painting. He fully exploits the characteristics of traditional lacquer with a classic color palette: red, yellow, black, and a reddish-brown base... The contrast of these colors creates a strong visual impact when placed side by side.
The male artist's works are often inspired by his love for his homeland and nature, bearing the distinct mark of the Northern Vietnamese countryside. These elements, such as banana leaves, lotus flowers, banyan trees, riverside docks, and village courtyards, are skillfully and uniquely incorporated into his paintings.

Artist Nguyen Dinh Tuyen, with his realistic style, brings viewers to familiar yet sweet natural landscapes through his skillful use of light and shadow and warm colors. While adhering to traditional techniques, each of his works not only expresses an idea or a beauty but also contains profound emotions. Only by seeing and touching each brushstroke can one truly appreciate the artist's dedication to each piece.

Commenting on Nguyen Dinh Tuyen's works, painter Quang Viet said: "His paintings are truly recordings of heartfelt stories, moods, and emotional states embodied through everything he sees directly with his eyes, even with his touch, or simply through his feelings about them in very private spaces and times."
Here, there is a frequent combination of painting and graphic art, painting and decoration, 'coloring' and 'drawing', 'drawing' and 'smearing', between material and perceived color forms. Particularly, there is sometimes a very strong contrast between red and blue, or a sudden, stimulating flash of light from pure white strokes and areas that seem to only exist in oil painting… All of these elements have enhanced Nguyen Dinh Tuyen's lacquer paintings with modern spiritual qualities and values, as well as the ability to transform concrete, objective images into subjective, abstract images."

Sharing his plans for the future, artist Nguyen Dinh Tuyen added that his paintings will explore different themes, becoming more modern and concise. This exhibition concludes a series of interconnected paintings. For him, paintings, like the artist, reflect the human worldview. Artists must always explore and discover new things and find inspiration for artistic creation.
