Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport has officially put into operation a pet-only lounge at its domestic cargo terminal, marking a new step in improving professional and friendly pet transportation services.
The 210 m² waiting room is divided into two separate areas for dogs and cats, ensuring the comfort and safety of each pet. Each area is equipped with modern facilities, soft lighting and safe materials.

The highlight of the waiting room is the comprehensive monitoring system, which tracks and alerts environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, PM2.5 and PM10 fine dust, and ammonia concentration, ensuring the freshest and best air for pets.
In addition, the lounge also provides accompanying services such as booking airline tickets, doing paperwork for pets and allowing passengers to track their pets' status online during the waiting time.
Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport's domestic cargo terminal general manager said the airport has also set up a separate security check area and boarding corridor for pets. In case of pet stuck or flight delay, the airport will provide free care and food.

Building pet-friendly cities
According to the Global Times, this is part of the city government's efforts to turn Shenzhen into a pet-friendly metropolis - a place where both pet owners and animal lovers feel warm and comfortable.
In 2022, Shenzhen became the first city in China to ban the consumption of cats and dogs. In the same year, the city also launched the “Shenzhen Dog Adoption Service” initiative to standardize urban pet management and allow the adoption of stray dogs.
In addition, Shenzhen has more than 50 pet-friendly shopping malls, which offer specialized services such as pet elevators, stroller rentals, play areas, and pet-specific restrooms.
