Singapore advises citizens to be vigilant when traveling to Malaysia

Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has advised Singapore citizens to exercise caution when travelling to Malaysia following the terrorist attack at a police station in Ulu Tiram.

Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) advises Singaporeans staying in or travelling to Malaysia to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions to ensure personal safety.

MFA said Singapore strongly condemned the attack by a member of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terrorist group in the early hours of 17 May at the Ulu Tiram police station in the suburbs of Johor Bahru (Malaysia), which left two police officers dead and another officer injured. The attacker died in the ensuing gun battle. The suburban town of Ulu Tiram is located about 20 km from Johor Bahru, close to Mount Austin, a popular shopping destination for Singaporeans.

MFA said security in Malaysia remains under control, but Singapore citizens should be vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
