Cambodia has no new infections for 3 days
Cambodia’s Ministry of Health said that the country has not recorded any new Covid-19 cases for three consecutive days from April 4 to 6. A spokesman for the Cambodian Ministry of Health said that although there were no new infections, people in the country still need to remain vigilant against the disease.
The total number of infections recorded in Cambodia so far is 114.
Also on April 6, Indonesia recorded 218 new cases, the largest single-day increase to date. The country now has a total of 2,491 cases.
China records no deaths for first time
According to AFP news agency, China's National Health Commission (NHC) announced today (April 7) that for the first time since it began publishing epidemic data in January 2020, the country recorded no daily deaths due to Covid-19.
As of April 6, China had 32 new cases nationwide, all of which were imported. Although the number of cases in mainland China has been decreasing since March, the country is still facing a second wave of infections from abroad, with a total of nearly 1,000 imported cases.
Israel locks down the whole country for 3 days
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a nationwide lockdown from April 7 to April 10 to prevent the spread of the disease during the Jewish holiday of Passover in the country.
Mr Netanyahu said travel restrictions would be tightened on April 7 and Israelis would be banned from leaving their homes on the evening of April 8, when families would normally go out for traditional holiday activities. Movement between cities would be banned for nearly three days.
Iran calls on France to pressure US to lift sanctions
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on April 6 had a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron. During the call, the Iranian leader called on France to influence the US to lift unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic, as Tehran is dealing with the outbreak of the Covid-19 acute respiratory infection.
The Iranian President believes that Europe's implementation of its commitments and efforts to get the US to lift unilateral sanctions against Iran are necessary and especially meaningful at the present time.
Tehran is also negotiating with several countries on prisoner exchanges. According to Iranian media, unrest has occurred in several prisons and there was a mass jailbreak at a prison in the west of the country, although authorities have temporarily released about 100,000 prisoners to limit overcrowding.
According to Iran's Deputy Justice Minister Mahmoud Abbasitheo, 2,600 Afghan prisoners are preparing to leave Iran to return home, and some Central Asian countries have agreed to exchange prisoners with Tehran.
Iran is one of the countries most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, the number of deaths due to the epidemic in Iran is 3,739 people, the total number of cases is up to 60,500 people.
Morocco requires wearing masks when going out
Morocco's government said that from April 7, it will be compulsory for anyone going out to wear a mask to combat the Covid-19 epidemic. Those who do not comply with the new regulations could face up to three months in prison and a fine of up to 1,300 dirhams.
The North African country is reportedly planning to increase mask production to 6 million units per day next week, up from the current 3.3 million.
Death toll surpasses 10,000, US extends New York lockdown
According to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University on April 6, the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 in the US has exceeded 10,000 people. In just the past week, the number of deaths in this country has increased from an average of 500 to more than 1,000 cases/day.
The US is now one of the countries with the most deaths, along with Spain and Italy.
In New York state, Governor Andrew Cuomo has decided to extend the lockdown until most of April. Mr. Cuomo also warned that the state is still in a state of emergency and cannot accurately predict the time of the epidemic's peak, and at the same time called on New Yorkers to comply with social distancing regulations even though the warmer weather makes many people want to go out.
Italy: New cases down, deaths up
The Italian Civil Protection Agency on April 6 confirmed 3,599 more cases positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus, and this is the lowest number of new cases since March 17.
The agency also recorded 636 more deaths, higher than the 525 cases counted on April 5, bringing the total number of Covid-19 patients who died to 16,523 - the highest in the world.
France records record number of new deaths
On April 6, France recorded 833 more deaths from Covid-19 in hospitals and nursing homes within 24 hours. This is the highest number of deaths in a single day in the country to date.

British Prime Minister requires intensive medical treatment
The British Prime Minister's Office said on April 6 that Boris Johnson is receiving intensive care in hospital after his acute respiratory infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus worsened.
Mr Boris has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, who holds the position of First Minister of the Cabinet, to deputise for him where necessary.
Norway announced that it had controlled the epidemic.
According to the Norwegian Government, the rate of transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus from sick people to others has decreased to 0.7% - lower than the rate of 2.5% when containment measures such as closing public places and banning sports and cultural events were implemented in mid-March.
Currently, the total number of Covid-19 infections in Norway is recorded at 5,865 cases.
Czech Republic to relax some anti-epidemic measures
From April 7, the Czech government will allow the reopening of facilities for the collection and purchase of raw materials. Individual outdoor sports activities not in public places (such as jogging, cycling in the forest, etc.) will not require wearing a mask or face covering, but a distance of 2 m from other people must still be maintained.
From April 9, Czechs will be allowed to open convenience stores, building materials stores, computer stores, bicycle sales and repair shops.
The relaxation will come with stricter hygiene requirements. Stores will have to provide hand sanitizer, and supermarkets will continue to be required to provide disposable gloves to customers.
From April 14, some Czech border gates will be gradually allowed to reopen to handle necessary immigration cases such as business trips and transporting essential goods.
Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said the Czech Republic must choose smart isolation measures based on social screening tests.
As of the end of April 6 (local time), the Czech Republic recorded a total of 4,735 Covid-19 patients, including 78 deaths.
UN Security Council to hold first meeting on COVID-19
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will hold its first meeting on the Covid-19 pandemic on April 9, diplomats said on April 6, after weeks of discord among the five permanent members.
