Located about 3 km from Coc Pai town, this place stands out with its sprawling mountain landscape, vibrant buckwheat flower fields, and rows of rice and corn typical of the highlands. Upon arriving at the grassland, Dang Doan Sang, a young man from Quang Ninh, shared that his first feeling was one of awe at the pristine beauty of the place.
The surreal beauty of Suoi Thau grassland
“The natural scenery here is truly pristine and unspoiled, with pine trees interspersed with flowerbeds and green grass. In the distance, the Chay River meanders between two ranges of white rocky mountains, creating a majestic yet incredibly peaceful feeling,” Sang described.
In front of the grassland lies the Chay River, situated between two towering ranges of white rocky mountains on either side.
The vast Suoi Thau grassland is divided into many areas managed by local people, each cultivating different types of flowers such as buckwheat, cockscomb, and white mustard, creating a colorful natural landscape. Suoi Thau is at its most beautiful during the flowering season from October to December when the rice and corn ripen to a golden yellow and the flowers bloom in abundance. The scenery is like a multicolored painting, with the pink and purple of buckwheat, the red of cockscomb, and the pristine white of white mustard flowers – creating an irresistible attraction for tourists.

Compared to other places he had visited, Doan Sang found Suoi Thau to have a very unique charm. This place is almost untouched by modern tourism; there are no homestays, restaurants, or convenient services, allowing Suoi Thau to retain its original beauty. The natural scenery here gives the feeling of touching a land unspoiled by time and human intervention, making visitors feel as if they have entered another world, where only peace and nature blend together.
Beyond its scenic beauty, Suoi Thau also offers fascinating cultural experiences. Sang recounted his encounter with an elderly Hmong woman while visiting her rice fields. Although she couldn't speak Vietnamese, a simple smile from her left a deep impression of the hospitality and genuine nature of the local people. "When I gestured for a photo, she immediately smiled back at me, a warm and affectionate smile. The children in Suoi Thau are innocent and friendly, readily pointing out beautiful spots for photos or even running after our car to see us off," Sang added.

When the flowers are in full bloom, the Suoi Thau grassland transforms into a grand painting, with harmonious and captivating splashes of color. Buckwheat flowers blanket the landscape in shades of pink and purple, interspersed with rows of golden corn and vibrant red cockscomb. This is the ideal time for photography enthusiasts who want to enjoy the pristine beauty of nature. Sang said: "The grassland in bloom is like a painting created with vivid colors, each corner offering a different visual experience."

The season of flowers evokes fond memories.
As a relatively unspoiled destination, Suoi Thau lacks tourist services. To prepare for the trip, visitors should eat in Coc Pai town or Nan Ma commune market before heading to the grassland. Although the road is quite easy with gentle mountain passes, some sections are still affected by landslides after Typhoon Yagi, with small potholes, requiring drivers to be careful. Additionally, there is an entrance fee of 20,000 VND to the flower gardens, which can be paid in cash or via bank transfer depending on the garden.

Freedom amidst the vast prairie
Suoi Thau grassland is an ideal stop on a journey to explore the pristine beauty of Ha Giang, a place where visitors can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse themselves in nature. For Sang, this is not just a trip, but also an opportunity to feel the beautiful harmony between people and the land of Northeast Vietnam.
