According to a decision by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Tam Dao National Tourist Area covers an area of 10,723 hectares, including: the administrative service zone of Tam Dao National Park in Tam Dao district (5,399 hectares); the foothills of Tam Dao mountain (4,561.5 hectares); the Tay Thien historical and scenic site (477.6 hectares); and the Tam Dao tourist area (284.9 hectares).

The boundaries of the Tam Dao National Tourist Area are defined as follows: to the northeast and east, it borders the Tam Dao National Park in Tam Dao District, Vinh Phuc Province and Thai Nguyen Province; to the southeast, it borders the Cam Lam shooting range and forest land in Minh Quang Commune, Tam Dao District; to the south, it borders rice paddies in Minh Quang Commune, Tam Dao District; to the west, it borders Provincial Road 302, the section passing through Hop Chau Town, Ho Son Commune and Tam Quan Commune, Tam Dao District; to the northwest, it borders production forest land in Bo Ly and Yen Duong Communes, Tam Dao District and Son Duong District, Tuyen Quang Province.
The recognition of Tam Dao Tourist Area as a National Tourist Area is an opportunity for Vinh Phuc province to promote its unique cultural and recreational tourism resources and products, while attracting investment in tourism services and making tourism a key economic sector of the province.
