According to an announcement from the Tu San Agricultural and Tourism Service Cooperative (Ha Giang), the cooperative will temporarily suspend transporting tourists to visit Tu San Gorge by tourist boat on the Nho Que 1 River, via the Nho Que 1 Hydropower Plant, starting from September 16th.
This is currently the only facility offering the Nho Que hydroelectric reservoir experience, meaning that tourists visiting Ha Giang during this period will not have the opportunity to experience the famous Tu San Gorge, one of the symbols of Ha Giang as a tourist destination for a long time.
Taking a boat trip on the Nho Que River is considered a must-try experience when visiting Ha Giang.
The reason given for the temporary suspension of services is the lack of agreement on a (temporary) management plan for inland waterway transport services for tourists within the Nho Que hydroelectric reservoir, between the Meo Vac District People's Committee, the Tu San Cooperative, and Nho Que 1 Hydroelectric Joint Stock Company.
Furthermore, these units have not yet signed or renewed passenger transport contracts. The operating unit is notifying tourists so they can plan their travel itineraries accordingly. The Nho Que 1 hydroelectric reservoir is the only area where tourists can visit the Tu San Gorge by tourist boat.
Currently, the management and exploitation of the Tu Sản Gorge tourist site involves three parties: the People's Committee of Mèo Vạc District, the Tu Sản Agricultural and Tourism Service Cooperative, and Nho Quế 1 Hydropower Joint Stock Company.
Specifically, the passenger transport contract between Tu San Agricultural and Tourism Service Cooperative and Nho Que 1 Hydropower Joint Stock Company expired on September 15th, and at the time of this announcement (September 15th), the two parties had not yet found a better solution to renew the contract. Therefore, the Cooperative decided to temporarily suspend the operation of tourist boats on the Nho Que River, taking visitors to Tu San Gorge.
A representative from the Ha Giang Provincial Tourism Association stated that following the letter from the Tu San Agricultural and Tourism Service Cooperative, the association also discussed and encouraged the cooperative to develop flexible plans to minimize the impact of tour companies bringing tourists to the area, as well as to prevent individual tourists from visiting this check-in point. However, as of September 17th, tourists were still unable to visit Tu San Gorge by tourist boat on the Nho Que River.
Tu Sản Gorge, along with Nho Quế River and Mã Pí Lèng Pass, forms a trio of stunning landscapes in Mèo Vạc District, Hà Giang Province, that visitors to Hà Giang can hardly miss.
Dubbed the deepest gorge in Southeast Asia, Tu San Gorge boasts cliffs reaching 800m in height, 1.7km in length, and nearly 1km in depth, making it a unique wonder of the Dong Van Karst Plateau. This gorge is the product of miraculous geological formations from millions of years ago, when the area was submerged beneath the vast ocean. During the Earth's crustal changes, the water receded, eroding the area and leaving behind this unique geological heritage.
