Recently, in Quang Binh, a UNESCO expert delegation held a working session with the provincial leaders to assess the dossier for the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Heritage Site.
After a five-day survey of criteria at Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park (August 12-16, 2014), the expert team provided assessments focusing on balancing tourism development with conservation; infrastructure development within the Heritage site; national park protection; and financial resources for the conservation area.
According to experts, these are crucial factors that help Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park preserve and promote the value of the Heritage site, while also increasing its chances of being recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage site for the second time. In particular, experts also offered recommendations on forest protection; biodiversity monitoring by forest rangers; training and capacity building for forest rangers on preventing illegal logging; and methods of law enforcement.
Both sides also spent considerable time discussing and exchanging ideas to find effective solutions in completing the dossier to be submitted to UNESCO for recognition as a World Natural Heritage site for the second time, based on the criteria of biodiversity and ecosystem.
