Although Sorrento is a famous seaside town in Italy, according to the mayor of Sorrento, tourists who dress scantily here could be heavily fined because it affects the "quality of life" of the people.

In a recent announcement, tourists wearing revealing swimwear risk being fined between 25 and 500 euros. The ban also applies to those who go topless.

According to Mr. Massimo Coppola, mayor of Sorrento, this is one of the efforts of the local government to reduce insecurity and discomfort for both Sorrento residents and tourists.

"We want to prevent indecent behavior. In this way, the quality of life and landscape of the downtown area as well as public spaces will be protected and improved," said Mr. Coppola.

The town of Sorrento is located south of Naples, on the west coast of Italy.

Sorrento is a town on the Sorrentine Peninsula, home to the impressive Amalfi Coast that stretches south. This summer, it has attracted a large number of tourists from all over the world. In fact, the number of visitors has been so great that the local government has had to introduce new regulations to reduce the flow of people along the coast.

Since mid-June, a system of signs has been in place to allow cars only on the popular stretch of road between Vietri sul Mare and Positano every other day during peak season.

Vehicles with odd numbered plates will be allowed to drive on odd days, vehicles with even numbered plates on even days, and this applies from 10am to 6pm for the entire month of August, plus weekends from June 15 to September 30 or Holy Week around Easter.
