On the morning of August 11th, Mr. Dinh Thanh Tien, chairman of the People's Committee of Cat Khanh commune, Phu Cat district, said that in recent days, giant blue whales have repeatedly appeared in the Vung Boi area of De Gi beach to hunt for prey, much to the delight and curiosity of many locals and tourists.
According to Mr. Tien, after their last appearance about half a month ago, the two blue whales reappeared in the De Gi sea area and have stayed there for several days.
A breathtaking and magnificent sight in the De Gi sea area as blue whales appear and hunt right in front of fishermen's boats.
A flock of seagulls surrounds the blue whale whenever the whale opens its mouth to catch prey.
According to Tommy Toan (a tour guide in De Gi, who has witnessed blue whales appearing many times), before August, there were many blue whales appearing in the De Gi sea area, but now there are only two left, both of very large size.
The area where giant blue whales appear is about 20 minutes by boat from De Gi port; it is very pristine and clean.
For the first time, blue whales have appeared and stayed for several days in the De Gi sea area.
Two blue whales appeared very close to shore.
The spectacular and rare sight thrilled the tourists immensely.
"They come here to hunt because there are quite a lot of small fish here, mostly herring, scad, anchovies... and seagulls join in the hunt. Currently, there are two of them. The larger one is about 17 meters long, and the smaller one is about 10 meters long," Toan shared.
According to Mr. Toan, the area where the blue whales appear is still pristine and clean, about a 20-minute boat ride from the De Gi estuary.
