According to data from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the number of Chinese tourists entering Vietnam in 2017 was over 4 million, an increase of 48.6% compared to 2016, accounting for 2.5% of the total number of Chinese tourists going abroad. In 2017, Ho Chi Minh City welcomed 532,644 tourists, accounting for 13.3% of Chinese tourists visiting the whole country, an increase of 33% compared to the same period. In the first six months of 2018 alone, the number of Chinese tourists to Ho Chi Minh City reached 495,356, an increase of 21.8% compared to the same period. Chinese tourists visiting Vietnam usually stay for 6-7 days, with an average spending of about 639 USD/person/trip, equivalent to approximately USD 90/person/day. With the advantage of numerous direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City to major Chinese cities daily, it is predicted that the number of tourists from Hong Kong and China will continue to increase significantly in late 2018 and throughout 2019.”
