Vietjet and Boeing Corporation sign historic contract.

At 11:40 AM at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi, Vietjet, a new-generation airline from Vietnam, and Boeing, the aircraft manufacturer from the United States, signed a contract for the purchase of 100 B737 MAX 200 aircraft, worth US$11.3 billion.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, CEO of Vietjet, and Mr. Ray Conner, CEO of Boeing, signed this important contract in the presence of the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Tran Dai Quang, and the President of the United States, Barack Obama, along with high-ranking leaders from both countries.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Ray Conner, CEO of Boeing, said: “Boeing is proud to be a key player in the development of Vietnam’s aviation industry. Today, we are honored to welcome the top leaders of both Vietnam and the United States to witness this historic contract signing ceremony. With the most advanced designs and technologies, the high-performance B737 MAX 200 aircraft will help Vietjet develop a market-leading, economically efficient flight network, providing excellent customer experiences and contributing to Vietjet’s future success.”

In the narrow-body aircraft market, the B737 MAX 200 is the most advanced aircraft, incorporating the CFM International LEAP-1B engines, a high-tech winglet system, and numerous improvements that deliver the highest efficiency, reliability, and passenger comfort. This narrow-body aircraft is capable of saving 20% ​​on fuel consumption compared to the first-generation Next-Generation 737.

At the signing ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, CEO of Vietjet, shared: “Vietjet is currently operating its narrow-body fleet very efficiently. The investment in the B737 Max 200 fleet today will serve Vietjet's strategy of further strengthening its international route network in the future, including its long-haul network. Through this contract, Vietjet will contribute to increasing trade turnover between Vietnam and the United States, contributing to the development and integration of Vietnam's aviation industry.”

The aircraft ordered today are expected to be delivered between 2019 and 2023 to support Vietjet's expansion plans for domestic and regional routes. With this contract, Vietjet's fleet will comprise over 200 new and state-of-the-art aircraft by the end of 2023.
