Vietjet and Boeing Group sign historic contract

At 11:40 at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi, new-generation airline Vietjet (Vietnam) and aircraft manufacturing group Boeing (USA) signed a contract to purchase 100 B737 MAX 200 aircraft, worth 11.3 billion USD.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, General Director of Vietjet and Mr. Ray Conner, General Director of Boeing Corporation, signed this important contract in the presence of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tran Dai Quang and President of the United States Barack Obama and the high-ranking delegations of the two countries.

Speaking at the signing event, Mr. Ray Conner, CEO of Boeing Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation, said: “Boeing is proud to be a key factor in the development of Vietnam's aviation industry. Today, we are honored to welcome the top leaders of Vietnam and the United States to witness this historic contract signing ceremony. With the most advanced designs and technologies, the high-performance B737 MAX 200 aircraft will help Vietjet develop a market-leading, economically efficient flight network, bring great experiences to customers and contribute to Vietjet's future success.”

In the narrow-body aircraft market, the B737 MAX 200 is an aircraft line that integrates the most advanced CFM International LEAP-1B engine, high-tech winglets and many improvements that bring the highest efficiency and reliability, as well as comfort for passengers. This narrow-body aircraft line is capable of saving 20% ​​fuel consumption compared to the first generation Next-Generation 737 aircraft line.

At the signing event, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, CEO of Vietjet shared: “Vietjet is operating its current narrow-body fleet very effectively. Investing in the B737 Max 200 fleet today will serve Vietjet’s strategy of further developing its international flight network in the coming time, including its long-haul flight network development strategy. Through this contract, Vietjet will contribute to increasing trade turnover between Vietnam and the United States, contributing to the integration development of Vietnam’s aviation industry.”

The aircraft signed today are expected to be delivered from 2019 to 2023 to serve Vietjet Air's plan to expand its domestic and regional flight network. Thus, with the number of aircraft signed in this contract, by the end of 2023, Vietjet's fleet will have more than 200 of the newest and most modern aircraft in the world.
