On October 18th, Mobike public bicycles began trial runs in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transportation has repeatedly proposed establishing public bicycle stations around the city. On October 18th, the project officially began its trial with initial prices of 5,000 VND for 30 minutes, 10,000 VND for 60 minutes, and free usage for just 15 minutes for the first one to three months. Users must pay in advance before using the bikes. If usage exceeds the pre-registered time, the smart lock on the bike will notify the monitoring center.

To use the service, people download the Mobike app and scan around to find the nearest stations. Each bike has a QR code attached; the app must be used to scan the code to unlock and use the bike. To prevent theft, users must verify their personal information when registering for the service. In addition, each bicycle is also fitted with an identification tag with GPS connectivity so that operators can monitor the number of bikes at each station or the location of each bike.

Trial stations are being installed in District 1 and District 3. If the trial results are positive, the public bicycle rental service will officially launch. This means that more priority routes will be opened specifically for this mode of transportation, and traffic congestion and air pollution will be significantly reduced.
