Radisson Blu Phu Quoc builds Vietnam's first bamboo farm

Radisson Blu Phu Quoc exploits green areas near the sea for the purpose of planting bamboo. This will be the first international resort in Vietnam to implement this activity to enhance the responsibility of environmental protection for the community.
Following the success of the resort's environmental action chain under the "BLU GOES GREEN" project such as using electric vehicles and reusing soap to hand out to residents, the resort's General Manager - Mr. Marko Janssen decided to renovate the land within the resort grounds to become the first bamboo plantation in Phu Quoc.
“We have been saying no to plastic straws since the first day we opened in August 2018,” said Mr. Marko. “As you know, the environmental issue in Phu Quoc is currently a concern and more than that, we are taking drastic actions to better protect the environment; here we use bamboo straws to serve our guests. We will be the first international standard resort to have a bamboo farm and harvest bamboo to make straws.”
The resort cooperated with a local company, Bamboo Step, to carry out this project. This company has many years of experience in researching, growing bamboo, and making bamboo straws in Phu Quoc. The bamboo planting area has an initial area of 4 square meters with 50 bamboo beds. After one year of development, it is estimated that the area will double and the finished product will be harvested from 700 to 1,000 bamboo straws.
In addition, guests staying at the resort also have the opportunity to participate in bamboo straw making activities and can buy them as souvenirs.
