The 18th Festival of Tourism Enterprises (The Guide Awards) was successfully held on Phu Quoc Island.
According to statistics from the General Department of Tourism, the number of international visitors to Vietnam as of September 2017 is estimated at 9,448,331, an increase of 28.4% over the same period in 2016. Of which, Phu Quoc Island alone welcomed 242,999 international visitors, an increase of 25.1% over the same period last year with revenue reaching 2,873.9 billion VND, an increase of 24.9% over the same period.
This shows the strong attraction of this beautiful island with 62% of its area being primeval forest and hundreds of kilometers of coastline. Phu Quoc tourism is changing strongly with a series of high-end resort projects being implemented and soon to be put into operation. It is expected that by 2020, Phu Quoc will have about 10,000 new hotel rooms and attract more domestic and international tourists to this 'resort tourism star'. However, the problem is that, without a reasonable plan, Phu Quoc will likely have to face the situation of over-development of tourism, leading to many negative consequences for the environment and natural resources.
