Ink painting
Ink painting, also known as Shui Mo painting, is a type of painting originating from China. "Shui" means water, and "Mo" means ink; therefore, ink paintings are created using water-based ink, also known as Chinese ink, on silk paper. The main subjects in these paintings are usually trees, flowers, landscapes, birds, animals, people, etc., and are often accompanied by poetry.
Origin
Ink wash painting often depicts a melancholic mood, sometimes even sadness or contemplation about life. The main intention of the painting is to capture the essence, such as painting a flower in a way that conveys its freshness and softness. The difficulty in ink wash painting lies in the fact that each stroke, once applied to the paper, is considered finished because it cannot be erased or removed.

Lingnan School
The Linh Nam school of painting originated from the reformist school in traditional Chinese painting, forming in Guangdong at the end of the Qing dynasty. The works of this school did not merely imitate the painting styles of the past, but also reflected the spirit of the times, with vibrant colors and innovative aesthetic consciousness and artistic style, embodying the concept of "brush and ink keeping with the times."

Artist Luu Chau Minh
As one of the rare young artists pursuing the ink painting style of the Lingnan school, a style of painting that cannot be copied and requires years of arduous training, the exhibition at Art Space showcases 27 paintings by Luu Chau Minh. The paintings vary in size, with the smallest measuring 33cm x 53cm and the largest 95cm x 179cm.
Lotus fragrance
It only took him a few months to complete the 27 paintings, but to actually put brush to paper, he had to dedicate over a decade to rigorous training. He shared, "Actually, painting an ink painting is very quick, usually only a few hours per painting, but to begin painting, I had to practice since elementary school." To create works with depth and substance, the artist must diligently cultivate not only their technique but also the soul and spirit of the artist hidden within their paintings.
At the exhibition, you will be able to admire many typical paintings of the ink wash style with incredibly impressive lines and colors. You will also be surprised by the vibrancy of peonies, peach blossoms, and lotus flowers in paintings such as "Peonies in Bloom," "Peach Blossoms in Sapa," "Lotus Fragrance," and "Happy Spring"... and feel the tranquility and peace in the landscape paintings of the artist in "Peace," "Origins," and especially "Snowfall."
