To promote sustainable tourism development, the People's Committee of Co To district, Quang Ninh province, will pilot a regulation prohibiting tourists from bringing plastic bottles, plastic bags, and other materials that pose a risk of environmental pollution when visiting Co To, starting from September 1st.

On the afternoon of August 6th, Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung, Secretary and Chairman of the People's Committee of Co To district, announced that in order to build a sustainable green tourism environment, the People's Committee of the district will pilot a regulation prohibiting tourists from bringing plastic bottles, plastic bags, and other materials that pose a risk of environmental pollution when traveling to this island district.

According to Mr. Dung, the pilot program will be implemented for a few months, after which a summary will be conducted to move towards officially applying this regulation, because currently, basic necessities have been fully prepared in the island district to meet the needs of tourists.

From September 1st, tourists are not allowed to bring plastic bottles or plastic bags when visiting Co To Island.

"Outside the island district, everything regarding accommodation and food is now fully provided, but many tourists still carry around water bottles and plastic bags containing food, putting considerable pressure on the environment as plastic waste is brought to the island district," Mr. Dung said.

Mr. Dung said that, in order to effectively implement this regulation, Co To district requires transportation companies and travel agencies to instruct tourists from the moment they sell tickets, and upon arrival at Van Don port to go to Co To island, everyone will be asked to leave behind plastic bottles, plastic bags, and other items that pose a risk of environmental pollution.

The leaders of the Co To District People's Committee also expressed their hope that every citizen of the island district would uphold a sense of responsibility and actively participate in and organize activities to combat plastic waste through concrete actions. They urged people to change their habits and say no to single-use plastic products and plastic bags through shopping and daily life.

Actively participate in environmental protection activities in your living area through the smallest actions such as sorting waste at source, recycling, reusing waste, and promptly condemning acts that pollute the marine environment and wasteful habits in the use of resources and energy.
