To move towards sustainable tourism development, the People's Committee of Co To district, Quang Ninh province will pilot the application of regulations requiring tourists not to bring plastic bottles, nylon bags and materials that pose a risk of environmental pollution when traveling to Co To from September 1.

On the afternoon of August 6, Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung - Secretary and Chairman of the People's Committee of Co To district said that in order to build a sustainable green tourism environment, the People's Committee of the district will pilot a regulation requiring tourists not to bring plastic bottles, nylon bags and materials that pose a risk of environmental pollution when traveling to this island district.

According to Mr. Dung, the pilot will be implemented for a few months, then a summary will be made to officially apply this regulation because currently on the island district, basic necessities have been fully prepared to meet the needs of tourists.

From September 1, tourists are not allowed to bring plastic bottles or plastic bags when visiting Co To Island.

"Currently, all accommodation and food are available on the island district, but many tourists still carry water bottles and plastic bags containing food... causing a lot of pressure on the environment when plastic waste is brought to the island district," said Mr. Dung.

Mr. Dung said that to effectively implement this regulation, Co To district requires transport companies and travel agencies to guide tourists right from the time of ticket sales, and when arriving at Van Don wharf to go to Co To island, they will be required to leave behind plastic bottles, nylon bags and other objects that pose a risk of polluting the environment.

The leaders of the People's Committee of Co To district also expressed their hope that each islander would uphold their sense of responsibility, actively participate in and organize activities against plastic waste through specific actions. Change habits, say no to single-use plastic products and nylon bags through shopping and daily activities.

Actively participate in environmental protection activities in the place of residence through the smallest actions such as sorting waste at source, recycling, reusing waste and promptly condemning acts that pollute the marine environment and habits of wasting resources and energy.
