Tourists visit Hoi An ancient town.
To implement this, the city government will divide the main roads into the old town into two paths. One path will be for locals and the other for tourists. The plan is expected to be applied from May 15. Ticket sales time is from 7:30 to 21:30 every day in summer and 7:30 to 21:00 in winter.
Currently, only tourists who want to visit certain places have to buy tickets, walking around and eating freely is free.
Explaining this change, Hoi An City Chairman Nguyen Van Son said that the mandatory ticket purchase for all tourists visiting the ancient town is to ensure fairness for the locality and all tourists.
According to Mr. Son, the decision to recognize Hoi An ancient town as a world cultural heritage means that the entire landscape of the ancient town is a heritage, not just any relic. Moreover, the revenue from entrance tickets serves the restoration of heritage, infrastructure improvement in the ancient town, serves the organization of tourist events, as well as supports people in renovating their houses.
"All funding for implementation comes from ticket sales. Therefore, tourists visiting Hoi An must be responsible for buying tickets," said Mr. Son, adding that residents and tourists staying in Hoi An for a long time will have their own identification and entrance. In addition, those entering the old town to work at businesses and restaurants will not be charged, but the unit must ensure the correct purpose. If discovered visiting without paying the ticket, they will be fined.
Hoi An Ancient Town was recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage in 1999.
Currently, ticket holders can visit and listen to explanations at the Japanese Covered Bridge, Cam Pho Communal House, Tuy Tien Duong Minh Huong, Quan Cong Temple, Hoi An Museum, Quan Thang Ancient House, Duc An, Phung Hung, Tan Ky, Tran Family Temple, Nguyen Tuong Family Temple, Fujian Assembly Hall, Quang Dong, Trieu Chau...
