A nursing home in Hanoi wants to request the return of an old airplane for its elderly residents.

The Dien Hong Nursing Home (Hanoi) recently sent a document to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority requesting to exchange services for a Boeing 727 aircraft that has been abandoned for 12 years at Noi Bai Airport, in order to fulfill the wishes of the elderly residents there.

In a document sent to the Civil Aviation Authority on October 9th, signed by Mr. Do Tran Ho Thang - General Director of Dien Hong Hanoi Joint Stock Company, it was clearly stated that many elderly people living at the Dien Hong Nursing Home have always wished to experience flying on an airplane, but their current health does not allow them to travel by plane.

"While trying to realize the dreams of the elderly, we learned that Noi Bai Airport currently holds an abandoned airplane that has been left unused for 12 years," the Dien Hong Nursing Home stated.

Therefore, the center sent a letter to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority requesting that the Dien Hong Nursing Home be granted an aircraft, not only to serve the elderly residents living at the center but also other elderly people with similar needs.

The Dien Hong Nursing Home also proposed an alternative solution: if they are unable to afford the cost, they suggest exchanging three places at the nursing home for 12 years for an abandoned airplane at a cost of 8.8 million VND per month. The total value of the three places over 12 years is equivalent to more than 3.8 billion VND.

The Boeing 727-200 aircraft with registration number XU-RKJ, abandoned at Noi Bai Airport, was formerly owned by Royal Khmer Airlines (Cambodia) and had been parked there since May 1, 2007.

Previously, on September 30th, Tiffany & Son (TiffSon - a company specializing in providing solutions for handling inventory through bartering) also sent a document to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority requesting permission to "exchange" this aircraft. Specifically, TiffSon wanted to exchange goods such as beer, wine, cakes, and candies worth 3 billion VND for the aircraft, with the intention of using it as a cafe, restaurant, entertainment venue, or for advertising its brand, characters, or products.

However, the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority stated that there was no legal basis for exchanging aircraft for goods worth 3 billion VND and rejected the company's proposal.

The Vietnam Aviation Academy also once requested the abandoned Boeing 727 aircraft to use as a practical training tool.

Reportedly, the Civil Aviation Authority had proposed two options for handling the abandoned aircraft: auctioning it off or handing it over to the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV).
