Vietnam plans to reopen international flights from December

On November 25, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said Vietnam plans to reopen international flights, including direct flights to Japan, from early December.

During a meeting with Mr. Nobuhiko Sasaki - Chairman of the Japan External Trade Organization - Jetro on the morning of November 25, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that he and Japanese Prime Minister - Kishida Fumio have assigned the relevant agencies to study and reopen direct flights between the two countries. Vietnam is expected to begin reopening international flights, including flights to Japan, in early December.

According to the Ministry of Transport's submission to the Government in early November, international flights will reopen in three phases:

Phase 1(expected from the first quarter of 2022):Resuming flights between Vietnam and China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, France, Germany, Russia, UK, and Australia. Expected frequency of 4 flights for each country with a total number of visitors to Vietnam of about 12,000 people per week. Visitors must be fully vaccinated or have recovered from Covid-19, quarantined for 7 days at paid quarantine facilities, while unvaccinated visitors must quarantine for 14 days.

Phase 2(expected from Q2/2022):Regular passenger flights to Vietnam are operated, with no centralized quarantine required for passengers with vaccine passports. The markets will be deployed according to the needs of airlines with an expected frequency of 7 flights per week for each country. Passengers with vaccine passports will self-isolate at their place of residence for 3 to 7 days according to the instructions of the Ministry of Health. Passengers without vaccine passports must be centralized quarantined for 14 days, with a fee.

Phase 3 from the third quarter of 2022 will operate regular international flights with frequencies according to airline needs.
