After more than three months of suspending international flights due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam Airlines will be the first Vietnamese airline to plan for resumption of operations. Initially, the airline will connect Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with destinations where the pandemic situation is under control, such as South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Laos, and Cambodia.

According to the plan, Vietnam Airlines will resume flights on the Ho Chi Minh City - Seoul route with a frequency of 7 flights/week, the Hanoi - Seoul route with a frequency of 7 flights/week, the Ho Chi Minh City - Busan route with a frequency of 3 flights/week, and the Hanoi - Busan route with a frequency of 4 flights/week.
The airline will also operate four flights connecting Hanoi and Hong Kong and three flights connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong each week. For Taiwan, there are expected to be three flights from Ho Chi Minh City and four flights from Hanoi each week.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Bangkok route will be restored with a frequency of 7 flights/week, and the Hanoi - Bangkok route will also have 7 flights/week. In addition, from July 2nd, Vietnam Airlines will resume operations on the Ho Chi Minh City - Singapore, Hanoi - Vientiane (Laos), Vientiane - Phnom Penh (Cambodia), and Phnom Penh - Ho Chi Minh City routes.

A representative from Vietnam Airlines stated that the flight schedule is a pre-planned strategy to prepare for any eventuality when international commercial flights are approved: "Currently, airlines are still working in detail with the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Health to develop a detailed operational plan in accordance with the Prime Minister's directives." However, the flight plan is not the final plan, and the airline will officially announce it after working with the authorities.
