Vietnam's first international tourism office has opened in the UK.

The Vietnam National Tourism Administration has chosen London as the location for Vietnam's first overseas representative office, aiming to promote tourism and bring it closer to British tourists. The opening ceremony took place on the evening of February 18th with nearly 250 delegates from both countries.

The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Quang Tung; Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Tran Ngoc An; Ms. Kate White, representative of the UK Foreign Office; and Mr. Tran Trong Kien, Chairman of the Tourism Advisory Board (TAB). In addition, the ceremony welcomed nearly 200 guests from UK travel companies, representatives of the UK Foreign Office, the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK, Vietnam Airlines, and others.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Le Quang Tung highlighted the achievements of Vietnamese tourism in recent years, while affirming that the UK is a strategic partner and one of the largest source markets for European tourists in Vietnam. The opening of a tourism promotion office in London will create a bridge for tourism development between the two countries and contribute to strengthening multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and the UK.

Mr. Tran Trong Kien, Chairman of TAB, said that the opening of The Visit Vietnam travel office in the UK aims to cooperate with partner company The PC Agency (UK) to promote the image of Vietnamese tourism, introduce and update new Vietnamese tourism products to travel companies in the UK; thereby boosting the number of tourists from the UK and key European countries to Vietnam in the future.

Over 315,000 British tourists visited Vietnam in 2019, an increase of nearly 6% compared to 2018.

Amidst the global coronavirus pandemic, Deputy Minister Le Quang Tung affirmed that Vietnam remains a safe destination thanks to timely and effective disease control and prevention measures. The Vietnamese government is determined to both prevent the spread of the coronavirus and maintain economic and tourism development.
